Here is another 6 min video of the game being demo'ed on a Japanese baseball show. in the video the game's commentators are actually doing a live play-by-play of the host playing the game. it sounds just like their dialogues in-game, pretty funny, lol

Re: Pro Yakyu Spirits 2010 pre-release thread

        I finally made the plunge!

After two years of watching this game in awe.. I'm buying a copy of PYS6 from one of the members on this site!

I decided to go with 6 because I think having the WBC mode with familiar players will help extended this game for me.

Looking forward to finally playing this game!

I see this will be available for the PSP (it doesn't look like any of the previous versions were). I can't wait to give it a try! I am assuming this will work on a U.S. PSP? Are there region issues with the PSP like with console and PC games? Anybody know?

The PSP is region free. All you gotta do is stick that UMD in your U.S. PSP and it'll run. I did it with Hajime No Ippo Victorious Spirits. I was thinking about picking up the PSP version in addition to my purchase of the PS2 version.

Yeah that is pretty funny. That guy is like me when I play. He was so into it. My favorite part was when he got a hit to deep left center and he thought it might go yard, but it hit off the wall. Those moments are the best in PYS. (when you hit a deep shot but it just stays in the park) No other game has quite as much doubt about whether the ball will be a HR or not as it does in PYS.

I just played a game of PYS6. I was the US against Australia. I lost 2-1. But it was such an intense game. I started Peavy and Australia went up 1-0 in the top of the 1st. They they went up 2-1 in the 6th. In the bottom of the 7th, I got Jeter and Chipper on base. With 2 outs, Wright drove in Jeter with a single. Chipper got over to 3rd, they threw to 3rd, but then i tried to stretch the single into a double, but they threw it to 2nd and tagged me out just in time. I left Chipper stranded on 3rd. The game ended 2-1.

The thing I love about PYS is how you can make 20 outs in the first 21 batters (as I did at the plate) to start the game, have 1 hit going into the 7th, and you can still have a chance to win. And then you have one inning where you have a rally and you push your luck trying to turn a single into a double, and then you can never make a rally like that again for the rest of the game.

I realize some people may be better than me but i use pretty hard settings, so most games are low scoring.

I wondered the same thing. If anyone can explain what that does, I'd like to know, too.

Nice tuffy. I'm still in exhibition games as I've been tweaking some of the difficulty settings. But I think I've settled on some great settings. You can check out what i've been using in the PYS6 post release thread (page 11). Feel free to post your settings / difficulty levels there for PYS6's WBC mode so I know what gameplay you like. How similar is your difficulty to mine?

Haha!!! I love it when they are feeling fantastic!! This is the charm of the PYS series: the smiley faces. They really make every game unique and I just love it.

Great championship game recap. Where was the WBC final played at? At Yankee Stadium or at the Tokyo Dome?

Between PYS5 Kanzenban, PYS6's WBC mode, and PYS2010, I know I'll be going back and forth with these games for years.

Tuffy, you play these games on PS2 or PS3?

Well it looks like you are better than me in some areas. I like Basic+ pitch speed and Hard- CPU pitching. They seem to throw a good amount of balls on Hard-, possibly more than Hard or Hard+. So you notice they throw more balls on Hard than they do on Hard+? (i notice this varies on the pitcher you face. The great pitchers seem to throw a lot of strikes, whereas the average pitchers throw more balls)

I have normal CPU baserunning and fielding. I like low scoring games so i wouldn't do perfect CPU batting. (that must be tough)

Yeah exactly. It's total focus against the CPU. I notice though most of the game I suck at hitting, but there's always one or two innings where i get in the zone and all of a sudden i get a string of hits together. (usually after a few innings and i learn the opposing pitcher tendencies) The settings are pretty good for me at the moment since I just lost to Australia with the U.S. But it wasn't my best game. I also don't play it enough to get good. This is the kind of game where if you don't play for a while you kinda lose your edge. (especially with batting) If you don't focus you'll make too many easy fly outs and too many 1-2-3 innings. My pitching is pretty good most of the time.

I also turn the strike zone display off. (which makes pitching and hitting harder but more realistic imo) At the moment I do leave the hot and cold zones on. And I have real pitch point style, which makes it harder too. I use manual fielding with manual Action Button (square to lunge, triangle to jump, and X to dive). You use normal cursor hitting, right?

The 4:00 min mark thing: it is a small new feature called Coach Advie. It's not a really big deal so I haven't mentioned it. Basically in certain situation, a coach will give you a suggestion. At the 4 min mark, the coach is suggesting you go with the closer Mahara. If you choose the left option, then the game will sub in the set-up described in the mini-map. Choose the right option to ignore the suggestion. The Coach Advice will also suggest a specific pinch hitter suited for the situation and I assume pinch runner or defensive specialist. so while this may not seem like a big deal, it is pretty nice for fans unfamiliar with the Japanese players because now the game will tell you which guy is useful in what situation.

Some more updates from the developer's blog:

                              - Cursor lock-on help is now an option for those having trouble with cursor batting. You can even set it to progessive setting much like the progessive difficulty in last year's game so it adjusts the amount of help based on how good you are. Seems useless for all of us who enjoy the challenge of no help

                              - you will be able to move the Sweet spot of the bat outside of the strike zone this year. it seems to be just the left and right side of the strike zone though and the extra reach is just about the size of 1 baseball. it will be exciting to expand the strike zone a bit in an intense battle, but developers say obviously if u hit a Ball instead of a Strike dont expect to see great results but it is possible to get hits

                              - they say they added a bunch of new follow throughs this year inlcuding Hawk's Matsunaka and Baystar's Murata.

                              - new skill called "Golden Battery". basiclaly its a personal catcher thing. match an ace with his personal catcher and less stamina will be used. there are 16 such golden battery combinations in thsi game.

                              - outfield defense is changed. now it will be harder and the ball landing marker will change depending on your defensive rating. dont fully understand this at the moment. they suggest you go training mode. lol.

                              - Installing: available for both PS3 and PSP. it says specifically for the Portable, if you install it cuts the game loading for beginning of a match by half and it will get rid of the black transition screen. says nothing about this for ps3

They seem to be addressing what I see as the game's two biggest problems... Then again maybe not.

For loading, it would seem to make sense to just have a massive (or as much is needed) optional install on the PS3's HDD.
