    To The PS3, 2K Players..

I was wondering about the ps3 owners who decide to go with 2k as their baseball game of choice.

What decisions lead you to that?

Trying to get an idea of why a gamer would choose one game over another, when they have a choice, as on the xbox there is only one otion.

2 day old topic, 1 reply. I don't think too many PS3 owners went with 2k.

My buddy has a PS3 (and an Xbox360) and he went with MLB2k10 (PS3) this year. He also wanted my input before he made the purchase. Note: He has TheShow09 as well, but much prefers the gameplay controls in MLB2k baseball.

Despite TheShow09 being the game that got me back into gaming (and being my favorite game), after having played both MLB2k10's demo and TheShow10 retail, I felt there was no need to upgrade from MLBtheShow09.

Detour analogy to cars/vehicles. A new car model is supposedly released every 5 years, ex. 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010. Since TheShow10 resembles TheShow09 plus added features, I simply see no reason to upgrade after having test driven MLBtheShow10.

The added features and animation in TheShow10 were nice (although completely new some were already getting repetitive, not enough variety), but I felt that it doesn't warrant an upgrade. After playing a 3 hour session with TheShow10, I honestly really, really wanted to get back to MLB2k10. The "spark" simply wasn't there with MLBtheShow10.

Personally, I find that I prefer much more things in MLB2k baseball overall than what TheShow has to offer.

Things that immediately jump out at me and what I like in MLB2k10 better than TheShow.
        -commentary is absolute sensational
        -signature style animation
        -broadcast/atmosphere
-analog control stick for both pitching and hitting.
        -the overall fun factor
-the new batter camera (absolutely love it!)
        -player (and umpire) models.

I like simulation gameplay as much as the next person, but I found MLB2k10 to be the better buy this year, even though MLBtheShow09 was/is my favorite game. I actually played MLBk210 yesterday for 6 hours straight over at my buddy's place and I still can't get enough. The final box score's statistics were fairly representative of baseball simulation. It's actually quite a blast. I actually have high hopes for MLB2k11 including TheShow11 (apparently, Show11 may have new player models and more pre-pitch batter animation, both of which I look forward to tremendously).

I bought both. Namely the presentation, feeling of freshness, and million dollar contest.

the fresh feeling and presentation are whats pulling me.e
man the show commentary is god awful, no lie, just god awful

Re: To The PS3, 2K Players..

It's a mixed bag of what 2K does well and what The Show has failed in this year.

2K for me is more enjoyable to play, feels like I've got more control over the on field action, and I prefer the presentation and look of it. It has its odd moments (but then so does The Show), but when it gets things right, it's at a level The Show isn't. It feels like there's a better engine running this game, and it's really just in the process of getting going. Feel and gameplay are better in this game, the main thing in keeping me playing.

The Show hasn't progressed much at all, and is really starting to feel dated, like a PS2 game that waited too long to take the plunge into adding a new engine. In years past I had some fun playing it, but I got tired of it last year. Those player models, the hitting and pitching animations, the blandness of it all, and that commentary. I absolutely hate the meter pitching system, may as well be kicking field goals with it. Was time for a change as it feels like they kind of mailed it in this year after all the promises of new things.

PYS is still the one I have the highest hopes for, but for MLB it has to be 2K. And 2K is on PC so all the little bits of polish we can put on there ourselves.

Re: To The PS3, 2K Players..

I'm a PS3 owner that went with 2K10 this year after owning the Show from '06 thru '09. I personally think that MLB 09 was the best baseball game I ever played. I'm sure MLB 10 is a great game although I haven't played it. But that series is a bit stale for me. I just played about 50 games of MLB 09 since Christmas and probably close to 150 games overall. Combine that with three previous gaming years and I need a break as I'm burnt out on it.

Every year with the Show the game has gotten a little bit better. But the core gameplay doesn't change much. The feel and look of the game along with the commentary has pretty much stayed the same. On one hand, I think it's the prettiest baseball game with the best animations and most realistic gameplay on the planet. On the other hand I'm tired of eating the same meal at dinner time. Even eating steak every night gets old. I need a good hamburger once in awhile.

2K10 is nowhere near as polished as the Show. The animations aren't as good. The fielding isn't very good and some of the AI isn't nearly as tight as it is in the Show. But it's different and does have some advantages. The r-stick pitching is great and the Show really needs to stop ignoring the guys that like analog pitching and show some true innovation in their core gameplay mechanics. Batter's eye is also interesting and closer to an MVP type of system. 2K10 also has a great announcing crew and it's a really nice break from Matt, Dave and Rex.

Overall I think 2K10 is a solid game with some issues that the Show probably ironed out years ago. The Show will win the battle in many categories but 2K10 IS fun, has some different mechanics and is a nice break from the Show. I really want to emphasize that the r-stick pitching system in 2K10 is great and I like it a lot more than the Show's Classic or meter pitching.

I've only been able to play 4 games of 2K10 so my opinions could change. I actually think this game will get better over time as I tweak some sliders and they patch a few things. Here are my early impressions of 2K10: http://www.operationsports.com/rudyj...0-impressions/

                  good thoughts.

                  Dated.
thats how i feel bout the show tho its still an unreal game, its not worse, just when ur at the top, theres not much higher to go.

I think a new front end for menus/overlays and announcing along with new player models, coupled with the already great gameplay, voila, new game.

The newness is pulling me to buy two games this year.
i KNOW for sure i will not buy MLB 11 without a new announcing setup and a new overall ascetic.

                  thanks for your thoughts

thanks rudy for the well thought out response.

                    great stuff here as well.

u brought up the word STALE, as did the previous poster and that is why i made this thread, I felt the same way.
                    But i still love it.

I am sure Sony knows this as they deal with the game way more than we do, they make it! lol

You mentioned that 2k is not near as polished as the show, which is true, and most will agree, overall its still not close to being the game the show is and yet, people are STILL choosing it over the SHow this year.
SOny must recognize this, that its not even about being the better game this year.
They will lose sales based on becoming stale, not because the games not as good.
That should be a warning flag to change it up..
I think/hope for big changes to the Shows overall look.

                    thanks rudy

On the staleness of The Show: I think developing a game could get like this after a few years of using the same engine and simply adding bits on. Just think of how jaded you become as a gamer looking at the same thing every year.

When I saw the first screens, I knew this was going to be a pretty bad year for their game. It's been two years of excuses as to why new models never made it in. Something about animations, yet we're still seeing that awful swing animation and the horrid pitching animations.

Good lighting hides flaws in games. That's all I've seen the past two years.

i agree with some stuff here.

I think new models would give way to nicer animations.

This is exactly how I feel! You put what I wanted to fully say in to words. I 100% agree and I wish people would realize its not as great as they say it is. I don't feel like Im controlling my players in the Show half the time. The pitching meter is awful and not fluid. Hitting is not fun etc etc.
