I'm having a lot more fun with 2k's pitching this year then the show's pitching. 2k feels like you're more involved in pitching as well.

Re: Pitching - MLB 2K10 vs. The Show
I like the way 2k10 does the pitching with the right thumb stick, but I don't like how once you get all the gestures down it'll be easy to pinpoint all your pitches.
I really liked the shows meter pitching, because it was tough to throw a pitch exactly where I wanted it, control ratings mattered a lot more. I've only played the show on ps2, but from what I've read it sounds like the meter pitching is just about the same on the ps3.Comment

Re: Pitching - MLB 2K10 vs. The Show
I have only played the 2k10 demo, and I own The Show 10 for ps3. I just couldn't get into using the right analog to pitch. For me, I want everything off the screen if I can, and with 2k10 there is WAY too much "crap" on my screen. I want to be able to focus on the catchers mit and the strike zone, not the circle thing that pops up when I go back and forth with the stick. Also, after a little practice, it becomes too easy to pinpoint your pitches no matter what. And you can pinpoint any type of pitch you want, which becomes unrealistic to me and takes the fun out of it.
I use classic pitching in the show. I've tried the meter, and while it's nice I suppose its just more crap on my screen that's not needed. Again, I want to focus on the catchers mit and strike zone, not a meter. Classic pitching IMHO is more realistic. It reflects the pitchers attributes better than any other system.
There are games where a certain pitch, i.e. the slider, just isn't working, aqnd can't hit his spots. But the curve is spot on. I like the realism in that. IRL, there's going to be a pitch that just doesn't feel right or work the way the pitcher wants, and classic pitching represents that very well imo.
Every pitcher seems to have a release point(the point where u release the button), and learning that for your pitchers is very challenging, but if you learn thos release points, and learn what pitches are working and which aren't each game, striking out the side(which I have done once in about 30 games), becomes very rewarding! Love the catchers suggestion as well, the logic is much better this year, and I use it every pitch i throw.Comment

Re: Pitching - MLB 2K10 vs. The Show
What about batter A.I.? That is definitely an aspect of pitching that can't be overlooked.
One of the coolest 'minor' additions to the Show this year was the ability to see where the A.I. batter was aiming its swing with the swing analyzer post-pitch.Comment

Re: Pitching - MLB 2K10 vs. The Show
The Show should add right stick pitching as an option. After four years of the Show I'm a little tired of the meter or classic option. The meter is similar for every pitch but my biggest complaint is that it's tied to the pitching motion. I'm staring at the meter and can't actually watch my pitcher execute. Classic gave me great results but after a long time using it I'm just burnt out on it. It feels stale because I'm really not in control other than pitch type and location.
The r-stick gesture pitching in 2K10 really puts you in control of pitching and is easily the best feature 2K10 has imo. I'm not great at it so it does give me the randomness I want but still leaves you in great control over the success of pitching which I like. It's something different and it makes the game fresh. The Show should keep the meter and classic and offer right stick controls to change it up a little. Just flat out steal what 2K10 did this year. We all know that pitching is half the gameplay so offering new options can really add a whole new dimension to the game.Comment

First, I am a The Show owner 3-years running. I've played both and I enjoy the right stick pitching on 2k10. I would also like to see The Show create a right stick pitching option but I am afraid of it becoming too easy as was the meter in MVP.
I will continue playing and buying The Show because it is simply the best baseball out there right now but 2k10 made up some ground this year.Comment

Re: Pitching - MLB 2K10 vs. The Show
When you break down the elements of each, they are pretty similar. First, aim your cursor to where you want the pitch to start off. Second, press the button that corresponds to the pitch you want. Third, begin executing the pitch (This is done differently, but it's a required step). Fourth, watch a graphics on the screen that will tell you when to complete your pitch. For the Show this means watching a meter bob back and forth, and for 2k10 this means watching the circle expand/contract.
While the pieces are similar, the experience is vastly different. maybe I'm just sick of the Show, but 2k10 really sucked me in with the pitching AND hitting mechanics. It's just been more fun, and I feel more a part of the action. I hope Sony is listening and implementes similar options next year.Comment

Re: Pitching - MLB 2K10 vs. The Show
Never have played 2k but it sounds interesting.
The Show should add something similat next year as an option cuz options are never bad.
Someone brought of MVP though and that is pretty much the ONLY thing I hated about MVP. You could hit the corners on pretty much every single pitch with ease. It made for dull low scoring games IMO.Comment

Re: Pitching - MLB 2K10 vs. The Show
I've been a fan of 2K's RS pitching for awhile. I think they finally found a sweet spot with the control of it for 2K10. It's responsive and fun, but now that you select the pitch type in advance, the missed gestures lead to more realistic missed spots and junk than meatballs due to confusion on what pitch it should be. they've done a solid job of improving ratings influence and overall balance of results too.
That said, aside from the mechanic, I think The Show's overall package and results are much better. The logic and relationship between ratings and user input is much more balanced. The meter provides good user control without being completely pinpoint and classic is perfect for those wanting ratings to be the predominant factor.
If you gave me 2K's mechanic with The Show's logic, AI, and balance, it would be a close to perfect as I can imagine.Comment

Re: Pitching - MLB 2K10 vs. The Show
I agree Soxfan. I love the gesture pitching but the results are too dependent on the gesture and not enough on the pitcher's ratings. They need to re-weight how the result is calculated. I'll agree that the Show's results are better but I'd rather have gesture pitching just because I like it so much.Comment

Re: Pitching - MLB 2K10 vs. The Show
The Show's pitching is just plain awful. I never liked the meter but classic is just out of control at this point. It doesn't even matter where you aim,it'll just go to some random spot. If I aim a Papelbon splitter low, inside with the intent of it falling at the bottom of the strikezone there is no way it should end up high and 2 feet out of the strikezone. I know pitches miss but to miss that badly, well they wouldn't be in the majors. You'd think it would at least miss around the area you're aiming in but no. There's also no indication of correct timing to release the button,if there even IS a correct timing to release it and it doesn't just measure power. I tried to use the meter again but it wasn't any better than before.
2K's classic pitching is perfect or almost at least. I'm not really a fan of the stick as I find it inaccurate or perhaps just too sensitive. I'll try it again when I get that controller with the adjustable sticks and that might make it better.Comment

Re: Pitching - MLB 2K10 vs. The Show
After more time with the gesture pitching I'm starting to get really irritated with how the system is working. It took me a bit to get used to the pitching system. There were three things you have to learn when you are used to the Show.
1. The strike zone is huge.
Pitches in the Show have to be at least 50% in the zone to be called a strike. Pitches in 2K10 just have to graze 1% of the zone and they are called a strike. I'm fine with either system but you have to really try to throw a ball in 2K10 in order to actually throw a ball. When you think you are nibbling, many times you are throwing a really hittable pitch in 2K10.
2. Pitches drift to the left.
When aiming you always need to aim more to the right in order to hit your spots. When you combine that with a large strike zone it is hard to throw balls on the right side of the plate. You really have to work hard to pitch around the big hitters.
3. Gesture pitching.
It takes some time to get used to the gestures. But once you do it actually hurts the game because the game gives far too much weight to the gesture and not enough to the pitcher's ratings. Once you get really good at it almost every pitcher feels the same and it takes away from the experience. If this isn't fixed with the patch I don't know how much long term enjoyment I will get out of this game.Comment
