1. Get rid of the roster requirements. Don't tell me I need to have another middle infielder. If I'm dumb about my roster and have to play a catcher at shortstop, so be it. Or rather, the point of having a utility man is that he can backup every position.
2. September call-ups Every player already on the 40-man roster should be able to be called up to the majors to play in September without worrying about options. It's in baseball, it should be in the game.
3. Change spring training games. This occured to me because I was trying out someone in spring training, he didn't work out, and I ended up having to release him because he was out of options.
When spring training starts, all players should be thrown into a big pool and not separated by MLB/AAA/A. At some point in the spring training (after game 5 for example), you have to cut down your "Big Pool" roster from 50 to 40 (for example). The 15 players you don't keep get assigned to the minors. At another point in spring training, you again cut to 30, and at the end of spring training, you have to be at the usual 25/15/10. If the developers REALLY got ambitious, you could start with more than 50 players, but you have to get your "Big Pool" roster to a certain number by different points in the spring training schedule. It's really hard to try out prospects in spring training when you only have a couple of players on the major league roster with options.
Any thoughts?
