I like(not love) it so that's why I haven't made the move yet. The thing I like least is the hitting. I hate the feel of the hitting stick and there just doesn't seem to be enough power. For you guys that have both is the Show better in that area? Or different enough to warrant a shot?
Well, "better" is subjective of course, but I personally prefer The Show's hitting controls (I recommend zone...but they have analog and timing only options as well). I feel there is more of a sense of weight to the way hitting feels in The Show. Making solid contact feels solid and hitting a dribbler feels like crap...lol. I agree about 2K's lack of power. The bat feels too lightweight and bat-to-ball contact in 2K feels too light and loose for my taste, combining to make the overall hitting feel weak to me as well.

Regardless of preference though, it is definitely different enough to warrant a shot.

Re: Anyone still playing both games?

I traded in MLB 2K11 for NCAA 12 this year. It's been a long time since I flat out traded in a baseball game at this time. It normally collects dust during football season but I'll break it back out come spring but I have had enough of the issues with 2K11. I really did enjoy it when I bought it and played about 50 or so games with my Tigers but I've learned the hard way that buggy and glitchy games don't have long lasting appeal.

2K11 still has poor animations and plenty of bugs. It was impossible to have user throwing errors as the sliders and system were terrible. Even fielding errors are few and far between. The fatigue model is horrible. Pinch hitters and DH guys will always get tired after every game. Makes it impossible to use a team properly like the Tigers who use a double catcher system with the backup (V-Mart) as the primary DH. The injuries are ridiculous and had to be shut off.

I do love the gesture pitching and the commentary. Those are great but the hitting model really started to get to me. I don't completely agree with BK in that high contact, low power guys are useless. They can get singles but the game is far too black and white in terms of who hit HRs. Part of that is due to the ridiculous gap between the contact and power swing. But my biggest problem with 2K11 grew over time. The hitting model changed from 2K10 to 2K11 and became more like MVP 05 where EVERY outside pitch had to be hit to the opposite field. It's just not realistic. In the Show and in real life players will routinely pull pitches over the outer half of the plate with power. It's just not possible in 2K11. So a guy like Jose Bautista who pulls 95% of his HRs in real life (and the vast majority of real players pull most of their HRs) will end up hitting a ton of opposite field HRs. While the game can be fun this particular hitting system and the direction of the franchise is not where I want it to be.

I did rent the Show this year and I will probably buy it next year after a two year break from the series. It's certainly a LOT smoother and more polished than 2K. My biggest beef with the Show had been the fast pitch speed. I also prefer the batting camera on 2K11 and certainly the commentary as well. If the Show simply went to a 20 point slider system and let me fine-tune the pitch speed (I need it slower) so I wouldn't end up so frustrated I would buy it day one without even bothering with 2K11. But right now the pitch speed in the Show at the slowest setting is faster than the default setting in 2K11 and no amount of practice will fix it for me. Just go to a bigger slider system please! It's not that hard so a guy with poor reflexes like myself can enjoy the game without getting pissed off at never walking and striking out a ton. I hate the guess pitch mechanic and refuse to use that unrealistic system.

As much as I try, I just can't get into MLB 2K11 this year. What's annoying is that I see the potential in the game, but the bugs/glitches/poor animations, etc. unfortunately get in the way and make it very difficult to enjoy this game over the long haul.

If we could blend MLB Today and 2K's commentating with MLB The Show, we'd have the perfect baseball game.

Right now I'm actually juggling between The Show, 2k11, and PYS 2011.
