    Questions for ASB Art

Ahhh that caught you all by surprise, who is ASB Art?

ASB Art im the lead artist on ASB 2005.

So lets give him a welcome and if you have any questions on the graphics here is the man with the answers. I am sure he will assist ASB Man with other questions but wanted to give him his own area.

Welcome to the "BEST DAMN SPORTS GAME SITE ON THE NET"ASB ART! My question is as far as upgrading the graphics, can you describe the differences between 2k4 & 2k5? I currently have a PS2 and i just wanna say as far as realism ie.models,stadiums,lighting,shadows,etc...ASB kicks *** that department! will we see more shadows on the ps2 than last year? and how 'bout real time shadows, did this make it in this year? Can you elaborate on these things please?
    Thank you!

Will there be more pitching motions this year? Many veteran with unique motions, along with rookies were not accurately depicted in last year's game. A few that come to mind are Randy Johnson, Pedro(he had D.Cone's windup), K. Brown, Gagne, F. Garcia. Many pitchers have a unique stretch postion. Two that come to mind are Mussina and Maddux.

                Motown:

the graphic upgrades that have been instituted in ASB05 span pretty much every visual in the game. Uniforms have better wrinkles, overlays get more professional, frontend menus get updated with a better look, etc.. Each of the 80+ stadiums have been revisited and cleaned up. We are using more of the PS2 and XBOX than we eve have before. The stadiums are rendered with multiple passes that make our dirt look better (less tiled) and grass look used and worn as the game goes on. We are also using antialiasing and mipmapping this year for the first time and it really takes the "jaggies" out and give a better sense of depth. All the stadiums have been relit to better convey the sense of time and sunlight hitting the field and bouncing off reflective surfaces. We are also adding some cool extra stuff like enviroment maps on reflective surfaces in the stadiums. So in SBC Park (formerly PacBell), the see through panels behind home plate reflect the stadium back at you. Its extra stuff, but it looks really nice.

We did a supplemental animation shoot, and this goes along with AcidSpitters question. We have Mussinas stretch and windup. Dontrelle's windup is in and looks really good. You probably got a glimpse of it from the IGN movies. We captured a bunch of other unique pitcher deliverys and unique batter stances. Ichiro, Soriano, Pujols, Matsui...the list goes on. One of the things that bothered me last year in our game was the lack of an aggresive outfielder throw when runners tagged up. Id usually try to line up just short of the ball landing target and attempt to time a run and catch and throw routine. This year we have animations that do all that for you. If a guy is tagging up at 3rd and you want to gun him out at home...get locked into the ball landing circle and hit the future throw button to iniate an animation that steps you back a few feet and sends you forward to catch and throw a rocket home. And there a bunch of new fielder animations that i wont give away, but you'll see them when you play it next year.

Im really pleased with where the graphics are this year and we are spending the next couple months to really get them even better.

                      Re: Questions for ASB Art

ASB Art, one of the things I feel ASB does better then anyone else is the amount of collison detection with the stadiums.

Can you elaborate about any improvemnets made to the collision detection? One of the best experiences of ASB is seeing the ball bounce around facades and the stands after home runs.

                      Thank you
