    Re: Questions for ASB Art

Welcome to the board and thanks for answering the questions! For what it's worth, I love that ASB looks much more photorealistic than other baseball games.

One of the things I've really loved about previous iterations of ASB was the collision detection on homeruns. There's something very satisfying about watching a moon shot richochet off of a billboard or bounce off a building across the street.

But I'd love a better look at homeruns. Maybe a close-up of where the ball hits. Right now, the camera can get a little awkward on homers, especially if it leaves the park. And if you do the manual replay (at least in the past) you couldn't angle it to look skyward, so you couldn't watch the ball except from the batter's POV at home plate.

Any chance for a better look at homerun balls this year? Either with the default camera or with replays or both?

Any pine-tar on bats this year? As an example, the bats in MLB2005 look amazingly detailed.

Any uniforms showing dirt after slides or dives?

Your stadiums look amazing by the way. Awesome detail, collision detection rules.

                  Collision Detection:

The stadiums still have all the collision from the previous years and the ball still rattles aound. We are still adjusting homerun cameras, and pretty much every other camera, so you'll get a better look at homerun balls going into the crowd or off walls (my favorite is hitting a shot off the western metal supply co. building in petco). How close we get is subject to how much detail we have in the area.

                  Crowd:

We're working on our crowd so that there is more idle time when there is no reason to clap. We had it last year but it seemed that the crowd would just keep on clappin'. You should see improvements this year.

                  Dirt and Grass stains:

We have stains this year. Dirt and grass, front and back.

                  Interface

The interface has been updated to look more modern. And the fonts look a lot better. No grainy old film look this year.

                  Stadium Atmosphere

We recorded more crowd chants, hecklers, etc. We actually recorded the crowd at yankee stadium during a game to get crowd cheers and boos. It sounds a lot better.

                  Bat detail

We are lighting our bats and balls differently this year and it looks good. We've have pinetar on our bats too.

                  HD support

not really my department, but i think they are working on it. Officially, i dont know.

Finally! This is such a great idea! I have never understood why developers spend the time, money and effort to get together "fake" crowds for recording purposes. That has to cost a lot of money, and - it never sounds even remotely authentic. I am really looking forward to a game that has real boos and real crowd roars. Hopefully other developers will take note of this and start using real clips...

By the way - what are you guys doing with the organ in this year's games. In previous years - it sounded pretty weak and "tinny" - as opposed to a loud and boisterous part of the background sounds - which is how it typically sounds in a real game. I would love to have upbeat organ music playing in the background - especially things like "Charge!!!" or "What do you do with a drunken sailor!?" (maybe this is only played at PNC Park - but it sounds great in person) whenever the home team is rallying.
