WRONG. Lefty/righty is basic to the strategy of baseball. Otherwise, you can't use relief specialist, you can't play the percentages, a starting staff with all righthanders can't match up well against a majority lefty hitting line-up, etc. Baseball is a game of strategy. Take that out and you have nothing. Every other game on the market has lefty/righty, so don't tell me only .000001 of the people care.

Re: Say it ain\'t so !!! ASB team please address this quick!!!

This thread is a wee bit too big for me at 4:00am, so please forgive me if I missed this. But, how is a "reduced crouch" any different than the CROUCH some of us are talking about? To me, a crouch is a crouch, and if those players aren't doing something other than standing/squatting in a crouch between plays, I won't be getting the game. Which is a shame, because from the looks and sounds of it, this could be the game of the year. Make the players pick their noses, scratch their crotches or butts, punch the webbing of their glove, tighten their batting gloves, whatever it takes. Just do something other than that linear-looking crouch.

Um...did you even PLAY last year's game? The batting cursor changed (sometimes dramatically) depending on whether you were batting lefty/lefty or lefty/righty. Brian Giles' sweet spot was much smaller and the overall cursor was smaller if he was up against a left-handed pitcher. You're right that there aren't seperate ratings for lefty vs. righty, but it's not like the game totally ignores the fact that there are differences between going up against a lefthander or a righthander.

Seems to me that there is a LOT of overreacting to things here. It's a near-gamebreaker that the pitcher is in the crouch? Puh-leese. It might look ugly, but unless it directly affects GAMEPLAY, then it's not that big of a deal. Somehow I doubt my right fielder's ability to run down a liner will be affected by whether my pitcher is in a crouch or not. I'm not downplaying graphics, but I'll take superior gameplay over superior graphics any day.

If memory serves me correctly (and maybe it doesn't) on the PS2 if you press down on the right analog stick couldn't you see this very data, or was it only the hit chart? I will fire it up again and check it out when I get home from work.

There are much more important things to add/fix in this series.

The franchise will not die just because of your hissy fits over lefty/righty ratings.

I'm not downplaying graphics, but I'll take superior gameplay over superior graphics any day.

in RL i beleive albert pujols hits righties better then lefties.. thats the opposite of what other players are.. will he still be poor against righties because the game only gives a decrease to righty/righty,. lefty/lefty matchups. the reason the ratings are important is because it can be unique to the player..

and yes, i agree.. i like vague ratings better as well. i wish more games would adopt it.
