Is anyone else at the end of the road for baseball video gaming?

Getting old and slow I just no longer have the time to play baseball video-gaming. There just is no mechanism for me what-so-ever to get into any kind of game mode on either baseball games.

Is anyone else at this point? It's kind of depressing, but even with the great new 2k12 rosters I look and a week later I have played 2 games.

Be honest though......I don't think you were ever really that into it.
You made a lot of attempts and a lot of shifting around, but you never seemed happy.
I don't think the road ever really started with you let alone being at the end of it.

I'm in the same boat. These next gen MLB games take way too long to finish, and while the option to save midway through a game is great,it can also elongate the experience. The next gen stuff look and sound amazing, but the realism can sometimes get in the way of the "fun" aspect of it all.Maybe i'm just getting old but i've got my PSX connected to my TV along with my 360,and 2k12 has been collecting dust.I've had more fun playing Triple Play 2001 and Interplay 2000.

One more thing.Firing up these next gen consoles takes an eternity. Then you have to sign in,do this,do that yadda, yadda, yadda.Whenever my girlfriend wants to watch TV and work out,it's much easier for me to pick up my lightweight PS one and hook it up to the TV in my room if i feel like playing a quick 9 innings of baseball.Lastly, playing the older baseball games gives you a sense of structure. What you see is what you get and your never left longing for more like a downloadable roster or a patch to embellish what should already be a nearly flawless video game. And don't get me started on the 60 dollar price tag.Sheesh.I think i'd suffer an aneurysm if i paid 60 bucks for a game and scratched it by mistake. With these older games, you pay a couple of bucks and they usually last a long time.If something happens to them they are easily replaceable and less expensive to do so.Consider this rant a biased one as i am getting older and my family has taken precedent over gaming. After all these are just my opinions.

I too have been considering leaving the current gen and going on the way back machine and getting back into games from my youth starting with NES and going to Sega Genesis.

                Thinking about games such as,

                Tecmo baseball
                bases loaded
                Tommy LaSorda Baseball
                Sports talk baseball
                Hard Ball 3

And the list goes on and on and on... i almost think that at the my age (42) that the games have gotten too smart for me and that i am no longer able to compete in them on their level as i used to in games from a decade ago on the PC in the High Heat series (2001-2003) on pc.

Take it from someone who visits the way back time machine on a regular basis.
It's not as great as you remember.

I do it just to revisit a game ....and I've got probably over 100.....so obviously I'm not going to get deep into any one any longer.
ASB2005 is probably the closest to getting any "regular" time(and it's very infrequent as something always happens to make me just shut it down)

                  It's nice to visit....but staying?...

Exactly!Firing up your Sega Genesis takes all but a couple of seconds to do,and before you know it your playing a fast paced and enjoyable game of baseball.Have you ever tried diving for a ball in 2k12?It takes about an hour to do.Pretty lathargic when compared to the older gen titles.

While I understand the argument in question, I find when I go back in time and play some old stuff (Ken Griffey, MLB 2k5,MVP 05, Triple Play 2001) I find its fun for an hour or so and thats usually because im doing roster edits of old players.
I respect the simplicity some of you are longing for, Realism can infact get in the way of a "fun" time. But personally at the end of the day like most people would assume the older games just dont cut it anymore.

If guys are tech savy getting an SNES emulator is a great way to play some old ball games on a smart phone, I play Ken Griffey and RBI baseball a fair amount when in boredom out of the house.

It's funny you say that. I enjoy using the Jays on 2k11 with rosters not even close to what it looks like now, but I cannot use them on 2k12 knowing there are rosters with their team accurate, but is it accurate enough?

Yes, the way back machine is always a disappointment too.

I will continue playing MVP 2005 as long as my PS2 holds out. I do my own ratings and rosters which adds to the enjoyment. Just finished playing my 2012 season with the Tigers (100-62). Now playing with the Nationals. I play a game a day sometimes two. Never get tired of it.

                              No. Not even close.

I know I'll play The Show and OOTP this year for sure, and I'll may even pick up 2K's offering at some point too.
