My two cents - While baseball video games have become more realistic than the games from 15 to 20 years ago, the replay value of today's baseball games has become limited. The devs who make MLB The Show seem more concerned about stressing the new features of the new game. I am content with the current version of The Show, but I tried to get an answer from Russell @ SCEA about having custom leagues offine in a future version of The Show, but he never replied to my question. Like some of previous posters. I am an older gamer (42), married with 2 kids. Dropping $65 on the newest version on The Show is hard to come by. I do miss the baseball games like Earl Weaver, Tony Larussa and arcade games like Bases loaded. Those games were fun to play and replay value was high. In Earl Weaver, you could make your own stadiums and create your teams and leagues. In The Show, I am limited in the customization of how I can create my league and teams.

There are tons of ideas that each dev has for the next version....but not all are viable to be implemented.
I know for a fact that Aaron_SCEA would love for custom offline franchise/league play, but it might not make the cut.....but it might.

Re: Is anyone else at the end of the road for baseball video gaming?
If you have unlimited access to your computer, the MVP-PC is a no brainer. Plus a 17-19" monitor used via Craigslist or such is cheap and will let you experience it better. Plus you have owner mode, or if you wish to play in a season, you can sim as many games as you want or you can play partial games by simming whatever innings you want.
Plus, I'm not getting your definition of "old".Comment

Re: Is anyone else at the end of the road for baseball video gaming?
I reached the end of the road after the 2nd Power Pro was released on the Wii. It's the last baseball game I've played. Too bad there is no way to easily update rosters on that.
It came the closest to a fun baseball game that doesn't concern itself with graphics first.
I wish that more companies would give unlicensed games a go (for all sports).
The golden era of baseball gaming for me was definitely in the multiplayer NES / SNES days. Now I live in an area with unreliable internet for online gaming and nobody to play multiplayer games locally, especially baseball games.
Time is definitely a problem for me now, though, too. A 3 year old and a 1 year old don't leave you with much video game time! My 3 (and a half) year old plays some games with me, though. But baseball games would definitely be out of his reach!Comment

Re: Is anyone else at the end of the road for baseball video gaming?
I blame the kids too. The last full-season of baseball I played was on MLB 2k8 (it could have been 2k7). My daughter was born in 2008. Of all the current baseball games (I call 2k11 and 2k12 current) the one I enjoy the most is 2k11 on the 360. My kids dominate that thing playing just dance. The other TV has a roku hooked up to it for netflix. My old parents babysit and I don't do confuse them by replacing the roku with a ps3 or another 360. This now leaves me to my computer which I do have unlimited access too. Unless I put on headphones the GPU fan sounds like a jet engine. The graphics are amazing, but it's on a 14" screen.Comment

Re: Is anyone else at the end of the road for baseball video gaming?
It's a real fight for me to hold on to baseball gaming...but it's worth it. I've downsized my gaming library considerably so that I can make time to focus on 2-3 AAA titles rather than getting just a little time in with 9-10 AAA titles.
For me, I have to play the Show in shortened seasons or with shortened innings. Also, the fact that they added tourney mode will help alot too. I'll throw 4 random AAA teams vs. 4 randon AA teams in a Playoff and have fun with that (if playoff mode lets you use any team in the game).
I don't get games when they first come out anymore, so that helps with the wallet. For instance, I'm sure the Show will be $40 somewhere by early May...which leaves plently of time to enjoy the game during the season.
"Recent" Baseball games that don't take a ton of time but are fun to play:
The Bigs 2 (PS3) - the only con, outdated rosters
Power Pros 08 (PS2) - the only con, outdated rosters
MVP 05 (PC) - no consUnofficial OS Ambassador of "CPU vs. CPU"
Now Playing:
XB1 (Forza Motorsport 6 and Horizon 2)
Switch (Mario Kart and Zelda)
PS3 (old 2k games and the Show)Comment

Re: Is anyone else at the end of the road for baseball video gaming?
I just pounded out 2 games of 2k12 pc and 4 games in myplayer mode and the changes the gents made to update rosters and sliders made it a fun game to play.
Plus pitching with RA Dickey and having his knuckler a 100 OVR after the first inning makes the game move right along.Comment

Re: Is anyone else at the end of the road for baseball video gaming?
I switch back and forth from The Show/2k12, and OOTP 13. This has kept them from getting old. With the new features in The Show and OOTP 14, I am more excited about baseball gaming than I have been in a while.Comment

Re: Is anyone else at the end of the road for baseball video gaming?
I love playing the show but its nice to site down at the PC and play some of the older titles. I always have MVP installed as its one of my fav games. But like I said after reading this tread Im going back to install the following
Baseball mogul 2007 and 2010
OOTP 11 ( might get 13 or hold out for 14)
Are there any current mods out for MVP 05? the lates one I have is 08.
Thanks

Re: Is anyone else at the end of the road for baseball video gaming?
I'm not sure yet. My friend and I had tons of fun playing seasons at his house with MLB 11 and 12, as well as The Bigs 2, but I haven't been able to replicate it playing by myself. I barely played MLB 12 when I bought it myself. We both are gonna be busy with jobs and school so hopefully an online league/season or whatever will be enjoyable.Comment

I guess you haven't been checking out the few other threads here regarding what's been happening at mvpmods. If you know of 08, then you know of mvpmods.com.Comment
