    All in one year?

    Or did you mostly sim?

I played almost every game in ASB and HH. With WSB, I simmed a lot because I just couldn't stomach the cartoonish on-the-field look and generic players... but the franchise had some neat elements.

The gameplay in both compared to HH falls short IMHO.

Everyone kept saying that beforehand, but when I played full seasons of both ASB04 and HH side by side, ASB was much closer to what happened in the actual season. Even slider tweaks didn't seem to put HH over it as far as realism (and I tried a LOT of slider settings). Plus ASB was so much more immersive in so many ways.

The rendition of players' individual mannerisms, details, realistic art style, and such was as lacking in World Series as they were in HH, and WSB didn't have the insane gameplay depth to make up for it.

My game killer with last years HH was the menu system. My poor eyes couldnt read the information without straining and I am a dynasty freak so i had to lay HH to the side and "wait for next year"

I didn't care for the menu system, but I think I can deal with pretty much any menu - no matter how crappy - if the game is good enough.

I'm trying to keep an open mind. They all look like they've made some serious strides this year, and I'll definitely try them all. But ASB04 was the closest the closest thing I've ever played to my idea of a perfect baseball game, and this year they seem to have implemented everything I wanted changed (behind the pitcher view, widescreen, more dynamic camera system, better presentation, easier learning curve, etc.)

ESPN (World Series) is a very impressive pick-up-and-play arcade-style baseball game. Not very realistic though. Identical player heights and weights for everyone, very few distinctive stances/motions, terrible physics, no collision detection at all, and a hand-drawn style with player models that look very little like the actual player. Almost no learning curve, though, and good franchise. Nice ESPN presentation.

MVP is very innovative. It's a much different type of game than the other two. You use a swinging golf game-style meter to determine how well you pitch, field, and so on. Very interactive and very skill-based. The big problem is that it's a first-year franchise, which means it has a lot of rough spots and very little depth.

ASB is easily the deepest, most detailed, and most authentic. Its biggest problems are a steep learning curve, accurate (BLAZING) pitch speeds, and kind of bland presentation. For depth and realism, though, it's the best there is.

      <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

a good summary...for last years titles

im a WSB guy..but am feeling tired of the same...i will take a long/hard look at MVP

i rented ASB (i owned 02 years back)--just can't get into it, mainy because:

      terrible menu control
poor roster management (mvp 03 too)
schotty GFX for an HDTV owner--WAY too many jaggies
Bummed that you're not on my ignore list yet?.....Don't worry, I'm sure you will be very soon.

Well, they're redoing the roster management (and all the menus) this year. Plus they're adding widescreen HD support for Xbox (I'm playing on a 16x9 HDTV so I was hoping for this too). So definitely rent it this year.

Oh well. At least on the PC we still have the best "playing" title.

I might try MVP 2005 for the PC, but IMHO it's not as enjoyable to "play" as HH.

If you have a PS2, you may want to look at MLB 2005.
I played it myself at the 989 Studios two weeks ago, and it gave me that "High Heat" feel.
It won't look as good as some of the other titles, but it felt eerily similar to "High Heat" in pacing, hit variety, and feel at the plate.
