Re: Manage only Mode Thread
Have any of you MOM people figured anything out with power or contact swing? Through about 60 at bats in spring training nearly all of my players are averaging a strikeout almost every 3rd at bat. That's everyone from Grudz and Alou(who are contact hitters) to Sosa and Lee. I know the Cubs strikeout alot and don't walk much; but this many strikeouts and no walks is not good at all.
A majority of those strikeouts have all 3 swings as those terrible flailers. This is really turning the game back in the negative direction for me. I understand what many have said about that flailing swing- that you have to look at it as a strikeout is a strikeout. But I'm striking out so much on MOM that if I hear Lyons ' flag line one more time I'll kick in my tv screen.
I just don't understand it. The cpu hitters rarely have that swing. I've tried just about every combination of using power and or contact swings. Taking pitches I've found also does no good since you aren't going to get walked anyway. Anyone have any suggestions?Comment

Re: Manage only Mode Thread
Well...I simmed through the rest of spring training and decided to start the season and after the opening series my mood is back up about the game. Three good games. I decided to use 1-0 generated pitch counts and went exclusively to "classic" pitch speed. Both seemed to make a difference along with the fact that I think I've got the OF arm and range and player speed thing kind of figured out.
I had a few doubles off the wall; but still had a proportion of extra base hits. I also had some guys score from 2nd on singles. They don't always do it; but it happens often enough. The only problem I noticed on classic pitch speed is a few too many nubbers(swinging bunts). I'm going to have to drop the slower guys speed down a notch so they are less likely to beat these out for hits.
I did manage to give a up a couple walks(why, oh why though does the cpu swing at all 3-0 pitches in the strike zone--I'd be giving up a decent # of walks if I had to make more than 1 quality pitch in that situation) and draw a few unintentional myself. I'd like to try dropping pitcher's control ratings. Has one tried this?
I was surprised how just a 1-0 generated count affected pitcher stamina. I was pretty satisfied with how it affected starting pitchers; but I'm going to have to up the stamina of relief pitchers. They all were gassed before even getting through one inning, including the long reliever. I guess since I'm going to have to adjust pitcher stamina; I might as well try to decrease their control and see what happens.Comment

Do you think upping the pitchers speed and arm strength might get them to those dribblers quicker. The pitcher fielding ratings are pretty pathetic.Comment
