Based on what I've seen/read so far...
If you're looking for simcade gameplay - a baseball game with some simulation elements/depth and arcade-style look/gameplay - it looks like EA's series may be the way to go. They've put a mountain of work into the 2004 title. ESPN is a similar style of game, but it seems to have made fairly minor changes by comparison, and it doesn't look as authentic.
Here's a recent gameplay video of MVP 2004 so you can see what I mean: MVP 2004 footage
For what it's worth, I prefer a more realistic look and simulation style, so I'm picking up ASB05, which has also made some major changes/improvements, especially as far as gameplay.

Until ESPN fixes their bats I wont even consider it. When you swing the bat it looks like youre swinging a toothpick and feels like your swinging a fly swatter.
In terms of MVP, the innovations they made last year were all a step in the right direction. I liked the hitting, pitching and throwing meters. Actually, the two front runners, in my mind, are ASB and MVP. ESPN is a distant third in baseball games this year.Comment

I've always hated that about ESPN's bats also. It just doesn't look realistic at all...Comment
