ASB might be hintin' about Historical Teams Soon!

Just read an interview over @ GS, and this part of the interview could interpret Historical teams ie. 27 Yanks,75Reds,55 B Dodgers,61 Pirates,etc...Here it is:

GS: Where does the series go from here?

TG: Well, I'm not sure if it's next year or not, but online has a ton of possibilities. Eventually, we'll give leagues/drafts/seasons/World Series online.[b] Baseball also has a great history, which could be reenacted with the right licenses[b]. Whatever we decide to do, I promise we'll keep pushing the envelope of realism while paying homage to the sport we love.

    Whata ya guys think??

It would be nice if they used the the ASB engine for an old time baseball game. I dunno have the game start in 1930 and use the historical database with the minor league teams of all the existing MLB teams at the time and rewrite history from that point on. The dynasty would have to be a good 50-60 yrs tho.

    Eh....but it's impossible to do.

There was an "Oldtime Baseball" game a few years ago that was great....had the roster for *every* team for *every* year up until the early '80s, I think), including Negro League. A lot of old stadiums. Your choice between Mel Allen and Curk Gowdy as announcer. If they could take all that roster information and put it with today's graphics and gameplay.....throw in the classic stadiums and uniforms.....I would be in 7th Heaven.

It was a PC game, but I don't see why it couldn't be done on a console somehow.

You are correct Motown....it was the Tony LaRussa engine.

Nice to see a fellow classic gamer!

Oldtime Baseball was a GREAT game and one I spent hours with.

Unfortunately, you will never see the likes of it again. About 10 years ago, Johnny Bench sued a major game company for using his name and likeness without permission. He won the case. Since then , all players who are not members of the MLBPA cannot be used in a video game unless the manufacturer gets their individual permission. Since retired players are not part of any union, permission has to be sought and granted on a one-by-one player basis. The new Cooperstown Collection has about 30 or 40 players in it, but alot of omissions as well. But this new "group" authorizes game companies to use the players who are members (for a fee of course).

So, you can now see why we won't see any oldtime teams included in any game, unless the manufacturers want to do what Madden does and not name any of the players and change their uniform numbers to avoid being sued!

Thanks Johnny...like you didn't have enough money already!
