Unfortunately, you will never see the likes of it again. About 10 years ago, Johnny Bench sued a major game company for using his name and likeness without permission. He won the case. Since then , all players who are not members of the MLBPA cannot be used in a video game unless the manufacturer gets their individual permission. Since retired players are not part of any union, permission has to be sought and granted on a one-by-one player basis. The new Cooperstown Collection has about 30 or 40 players in it, but alot of omissions as well. But this new "group" authorizes game companies to use the players who are members (for a fee of course).

    That's a shame.

I know you are a big "classic" roster guy like me so I can imagine your feelings. I guess I don't necessarily need for every team or person to be included....just make it possible to (easily) create and edit teams and players, and give us the ability to make our own custom leagues. And throw in lots of old unis and stadiums.

Yes, they have to get the rights from the players estates, familes, etc...a daunting task to say the least.

The only way we will ever have this is they allow us to create teams or make the editor robust enough to change everything about the current teams/rosters so we could edit like the 2004 Yankees to the 61 Yanks, 2004 Dodgers as 65 Dodgers, 2004 Red Sox as 67 Red Sox, etc...and save as a new roster file.

I think you could have historic teams if they offered a robust system for creating custom leagues and being able to edit team names and players.

The game already has old time unis and stadiums. If you could create a custom league, you could set up two 8 team leagues. Edit rosters to the season of your liking (or download them from some of the OS Baseball whizes). Then change a few team names like Los Angeles to Brooklyn, and Texas Rangers to Washington Senators. Assign the Polo Grounds, Ebbets field and the like to the correct teams. Then turn back the clock, because you are ready to go.

Yeah, you still won't have actual faces, but I don't know what most of those players looked like anyways.

            Just a thought.

Yeah...High Heat allowed you to do this...with the help of DangerZ's editor! But it was a gas playing with the 61 Yanks in a mod version of oldtime Yankee Stadium...or the 55 Dodgers at Ebbets. I spent hours playing with the classic teams!

Yes, High Heat was great in that regard. I used a 1930 roster, cianfrocco's (and some of my own) unis. I got as many player photos as I could find. Played only in the old time parks (plus Yankee, Fenway, and Wrigley).
