    Looking back on videogame baseball

The release of MVP got me a doing a little reminiscing...I tried to think of every baseball game I ever owned. That's always been my favorite type of game. Here goes.

Nintendo - Baseball, Major League Baseball, Bases Loaded I & II, RBI Baseball I, Baseball Stars

    Super Nintendo - Hardball 95

    Genesis - Triple Play 96

    Saturn - WSB 98

N64 - Major League Baseball featuring Ken Griffey, Jr., ASB 2000

    PSX - TP 2000, MLB 01, HH 2000

Dreamcast - World Series Baseball, WSB 2K1, WSB 2K2

    PS2 - HH 2002, HH 2003

XBOX - WSB 2K3, HH 2004, MVP Baseball, ASB 2004

    PC - Hardball, HH 2001, TP 2001

There have certainly been some memorable baseball games in years past. Some moments that stand out:
cumulative stats in Baseball Stats, rain delays in WSB 98, the graphics of ASB, drawing walks in HH, the graphics of WSB (Dreamcast), the audio in MVP, to name a few. I think the memorable moment in MVP this year for me will be minor leagues!
NOW PLAYING: Battlefield 3, MLB 12 The Show

I think Baseball Stars was the first game to let you create players and teams. I think it was also one of the first to use attribute ratings that changed. I like how there was a charisma attribute that attracted more people to the ballpark.

My favourite baseball games I ever played, and pretty much only played, are in this order.
1.Earl Weaver for pc- played this up until about 1990
          2. Tony Larussa series for the pc- played this(mostly larussa 2) up until around 2001.
          3. high Heat 2001 for the pc-The best most complete of them all. The only baseball game I still play. Unbelievable game. The best of the high heat series. The next year they went downhill, because they concentrated more on the graphics.

Atari. 3 Fielders, and you could routinely pull off triple plays with one fielder. You could also play with one fielder....and yes Triple plays still common.

Re: Looking back on videogame baseball

in da past: i tell ya what, i was giddy when my mom got me the original Griffey after my last day of 5th grade...i played that to death, serious. winning run was okay, but it couldn't match the original.

in da more recent past: griffey slugfest, i played that a lot. finally cut the cord with asb 2001, which was to that point the most realistic baseball game i'd ever played, and also the first one where i got a legit perfect game i still remember it...brian bohanon of all people-and against an all-righty braves lineup to boot! strangely enough, when i checked his scouting report later, it read that he was more effective against RH batters than against lefties...i say strange cus bohanon's a southpaw. i also introduced myself to triple play for the first and last time. i sort of wish i hadn't.

tha present: had to settle for psx MLB games, cus i actually liked the series. first ps2 baseball game was high heat 03, i liked it but traded it in to get ASB. last year i got HH04 and MLB 04, but then i had problems with the disc read error when i put in HH (traded it in-a few months later i learned how to open the ps2 and clean the lens)but i liked both. sure, both had their problems but just the same it was nice having two quality games. this year i've reserved MLB 05, and might put my blockbuster card to use for MVP or ASB.

tha future: no clue whatsoever...that's why it's the future.

                            This will be Fun...

NES: RBI Baseball 1, RBI Baseball 2, RBI Baseball 3, Bases Loaded, Baseball Stars, Roger Clemens' MVP Baseball.
SNES: Super Baseball Simulator 1.000, MLBPA Baseball
GameGear: RBI Baseball '94, World Series Baseball
                            Sega Genesis: World Series Baseball
Nintendo 64: All Star Baseball 2000, All Star Baseball 2001
                            Gamecube: MLB Slugfest 20*04
PC: Earl Weaver, Tony Larusa 2, Hardball, Hardball 2, FrontPage Sports Baseball 96, High Heat 2003
                            PS2: MVP 2004

There had to have been more. I think I had a couple more for the SNES but I can't remember. Was there a sequel to BaseballStars? I seem to remember it. Baseball games have come a really long way. I must say, the most fun I've ever had was with Tony Larusa 2, and High Heat 2003. I really enjoy the simulations. I plan on adding Out Of The Park 6 to the list this year.
