Re: Pro-Baseball 2004
I finally received the game this morning.
I've played roughly 5 games or so, and I must say, I am very impressed thus far. This game feels more like baseball than any other game that I've played previously. The pitching and batting mechanisms that Pro Yakyu 2004 employs are intuitive and fun, and from what I can tell from the handful of games that I've played, also produce pretty realistic results. The AI seems to be pretty solid as well; I've drawn a realistic amount of walks per game, seen the computer steal(I shouldn't even have to mention this one, but I've seen numerous people claim that stealing is all but absent in MVP), hit and run, advance extra bases on throws from the outfield to the wrong base, play situational matchups late in the game, pinch run, etc. I've only managed to catch one situation in which the AI behaved rather strangely; it was after the 2B reached out to snag a screaming linedrive and couldn't hold on.. he stopped and then continued to run past the ball, forcing the SS to chase the loose ball down. The audio in this game is amazing; the crowd sounds and stadium sounds are bar-none, the best that I've heard this year.
I still need to have some people that I know assist me in translating the pre-game and in-game options. Hopefully this will be sooner rather than later.
Kumala, you wouldn't happen to know Japanese, would you? ; )Comment

why can't these guys release this game in America with English!! My lord, I would probably buy a PS2 now looking at that and Winning Eleven.

If you remember back on the PS1 Konami did develop baseball games for stateside consumption. I have a hard time believing that Konami will re-enter an already saturated market, which is really a shame since I'll go ahead and say that Yakyu Spirits is easily the baseball equivalent of the Winning Eleven series.
By the way, a friendly fellow by the name of Muka translated the in game options:
</font><blockquote><font class="small">Quote:</font><hr />
1. Control Type
A Type with Analog/A Type with DPad/Btype with Analog/BType with DPad
2. Vibration On/off
3-7 the instruction book list them all together im not sure if the order is the same in the game
3. base running Manual/Auto
4. Defense Manual/Semiauto/Auto
5. Hitting Manual/Auto
6. Pitching Manual/Auto
7. Managing Manual/Auto
8. Batting Style
Normal
Average - cursor easier to get base hit
Lock on - cursor will lock on to ball
Zone Hitting - for beginners, no cursor, just time the ball and hit the button
9. PItch Style
Direct - the "hit x when circle is small" default pitching system
Auto - just throw the pitch, no timing mechanism
10. Defense Style (i have been using the default, I dont know exactly how the other styles play like)
Standard
Pro
Basic
11. Strike Zone on/off
12. Mit cursor on/off
13. Display Pitch name on/off
14. ball drop location cursor on/off
15. fielder marker Triangle on top of head/Circle Under feet/None
16. Fielder Change Auto switch/Semi Auto/Switch Manually (by pressing R2)
17. Stats/Ability display on/off
this is all for the user's side (left). i beleive if u press R1 or R2 (i forgot which), u will switch to the CPU's options. for them, i believe u can only select 3 or 4 options, usually On Off display of mit, strike zone, etc, just try to match up to the left side urself
