Well who knows the person that did the review MAY have taken a bribe for something from ea... remember and ive been thinking abut this all day today...... what if acclaim and sega had all the money..or better yet... i still think that all three companies should pool their skills staffs and all that and come out with only one game. Combining the best features and stuff from each... THAT WAY NO ONE could complain that one companys game is better than the other one...

if you look at some of the reviews from last year (ASB04) and look at complete totals. ASB04 (according to reviews) is the worst version of ASB to date.
IGN:
2002 - 8.4
2003 - 8.9
2004 - 8.1
Playstation Mag:
2002 - 3.5 out of 5
2003 - 3.5 out of 5
2004 - 3 out of 5
Game Informer
2002 - 8 out of 10
2003 - 9 out of 10
2004 - 8 out of 10
OXM: (they've never been big fans)
2002 - no xbox
2003 - 6.2
2004 - 7.7
trend wise it would appear we keep getting worse which i think is off. I've tried to go back and play 2002 and 2003 and we've improved leaps and bounds beyond those games. It's tough to pour years into the prouct and come up short of everyone else in reviews, but thats the way the ego crumbles. I cant tell you not to put faith in reviews because a lot of reviews are generally pretty good. But i play a lot of other games besides ASB, and i try not to go based on commercials or reviews. Word of mouth from people who actually plunk down 40 to 50 bucks for the game goes much further.
Anyway...im looking forward to ASB coming out so i can see the reactions here on OS, its our only real guage on the pulse. I dont think fielder cam is a swing and a miss personally. I really cant play the game any other way now. Game should be out soon.

I tend to agree with what you're saying. The other thing is I generally don't trust reviews coming from sites who really don't do much with sports games. Most of those sites see sports games as an afterthought.
While I wasn't a big fan of the last couple of versions of ASB, the one things you hear from a lot of ASB fans is that it takes some time with this game to truly appreciate it. I for one don't think these reviewers spend that much quality time with titles like ASB.
While I am still in a wait and see mode with ASB as to whether I purchase it this year (I am not reviewing any baseball games this year), I certainly wouldn't use one of the above reviewers to help make my decision on this game. I am gonna wait for feedback from the hard core sports gamers, like we have around here and places like Digitalsportspage.com
any way just my .02. I hope ASB does well this year, the more quality titles out there to provide competition the better off we gamers are.Comment

Re: The First Round-Up is Out
Everyone knows that I am a die hard baseball man, especially when it comes to videogames. ASB 2004 was hands down the best baseball game on the market for any console. The problem with most reviews is that the ones who are reviewing, are usually not fans of baseball or sports in general. I remember reading countless reviews that stated things like "I really don't like baseball but I do like the game," remarks. My point is, that if you don't follow baseball in general, how would one know if the game plays like their real life counterpart or not???
I really don't give reviews alot of weight cause one of my all time favorite games was Speed Devils Online for the Dreamcast. It received numerous bad reviews yet when I played the game, it was a blast. All Star Baseball 2004 was a solid title and I highly doubt that the game has become worse with even more effort put into this year. All Star Baseball has a ton of things that other baseball games still don't have and yet many of these gaming mags refuse to acknowledge that and show some love for once.
You know what is funny? The fact that many sites and mags actually knocked All Star Baseball 2004 for it's so called dated graphics. Take a good look at MVP 2004 this year cause in my opinion last year's ASB 04 looked way better than that! My point is where do you see that knock on EA's MVP series? That is right folks, people will overlook and see only what they want to see.
These reviews lately have been the equavalent of the blind leading the blind as one review seems to influence another reviewer and so forth. Haven't all the reviews basically have said the same thing over and over almost verbatim? You can automatically tell that the first hands on impression dictated everyone elses review so that they won't take any flak for being different.
Look at this way, "Opinions are like bungholes, everyone has one." So with that in mind, judge the game for yourself and see whether or not ASB 05 is for you. I am already happy with my purchase and I haven't even played the gameComment
