When I read this review, I had to shake my head. To be fair, if I step back and look at the situation without emotion, ASB has arguably had the least amount of innovation this year, and while the graphics are photo-realistic, they are a little drab in comparison. For the "I-have-a-million-and-one-more-games-to-review-this-week" print reviewer, those things jump right out at you, and based on their dislike for '04, I can at least see HOW these guys review ASB so low...

    That all being said, these reviewers are the most hypocritical, pathetic know-nothings on the planet. Funny how ASB has enough franchise depth "for eggheads" but Madden's "Owner Mode" was the MF'n SH!T!!! This is from the SAME REVIEWER. Franchise depth makes Madden #1, but an even DEEPER franchise/expansion mode should appeal to "eggheads"? Make up your freaking minds. Madden is the same each year, but they brush that off. ASB is similar and OMG its a gamekiller. Weak stances? HAS THIS STUPID POS EVEN PLAYED THE GAME? The faces are photo-realistic! Jeez...When I played MVP for the first time, I saw a million little things wrong and I couldn't WAIT to get back to OS to rip into it. I was gonna trash the fielding, the player models, the lack of walks, the horrible crowd, the hit-or-miss DP animations..everything. It was gonna be the RANT. OF. THE. YEAR!...

    ...then I played the 2nd inning. I hated MVP because I WANTED to hate it, and obviously the EGM crew feels the same about ASB, to print such misleading crap. The difference is that I gave MVP a full week and found alot of things that I DO like.

    <Calms down>

    I'll be kind and simply say that our friends at EGM must be severely over-worked to print a review without playing the game first.

    lol, kinda how i see it too. we are gonna find out A LOT about the honorable people here at Operation Sports as well. here's the mvp review (a 93 out of 100)...
    http://www.operationsports.com/revie...me=mvp2004xbox

    now i served some time in the cell for talking about this subject (among some other mischief, and i'll tell you its no fun). and the point isn't to offend anybody here. now most of us have played plenty of both mvp and asb. we know that they're are differences in what they are trying to deliver. we know that the teams that bring them to us are different in size, money, and the way they deal with the public. now obviously any review is opinion so however os rates the various baseball games this year is fine, its what they're comfortable with. even if they choose to crush asb like most reviewers. but don't forget, your review DEFINES YOU. we're about to find out what operation sports "dedicated to sports gaming", considers most important in a baseball game.

    is it a big deal? of course not. but os is by far the best sports gaming website around, and i think what they find important helps shape the way future games are developed to some extent. it's at least a little important to consider how they're gonna be defined.

      Almost everyone in this thread is coming off as a fanboi because they are insulting a review that obviously they did not agree with. Perhaps the reviewer is right and the game does suck this year. Or perhaps he is a crack-smoking putz who thinks a "squeeze" is how snug his woman is. Either way, you can't insult someone's review because it doesn't adhere to the way you want the game to be or to what you want to hear. If this review really means a lot to you, then rent the game and make your own determination. But if the review is worthless drivel, then ignore it and go out and purchase ASB and again, make your own determination. Either way, this is just his honest opinion of the game, whether he played it for 2 minutes or 3 days. There is always the slim possibility that the reviews are accurate, no?

      Like I said, I'm suddenly a fanboy for bashing EGM because of their style of review that they're known to do? I'm bashing it because of their inability to state gameplay issues OTHER THAN the second basemen looking one direction then throwing the other. They marked that fielder's cam was annoying yet they never mentioned that you can change it, thus giving them one reason to give it a bad score. I'm not sure about pitch speed but if they said it was slow without being able to change it, then that's another excuse. The third is the batting stances, which then they should've marked in past games if they were inaccurate. Lastly, the crowds, 2003, they marked them as the most realistic crowd, this year after some significant steps to improvement they're suddenly the worse.

      I know it's an opinion, but get it right. This review was intended to sway the average gaming joe to other games.

            Yes I do..

            Well I am going in to ASB with an open mind. I wasn't going to pick it up but the WSB delay amongst some other issues, has put WSB on the wait and see and moved ASB to a purchase. (I had pre-paid for WSB, and just had them change it to ASB). I won't be reviewing ASB, because I am somewhat skeptical that Acclaim can make the promised changes.

            I will say this, if they just fix a few small things and tweak a few small games, then this very well may end up being my game of choice this year. Can't wait to find out.

                  I agree w/ you. If they fix some of the issues we've addressed ad nauseum, this might be it. I suppose we shall see on Wednesday.

                  The delay for WSB has definitely put it in the back seat.

                        Wow, i didn't know anyone else ever played WSB 98 for Sega Saturn. My roomates and I used to waste hours playing that game in college, it was the best head2head baseball game ever, IMO. 95 on Sega Genesis was great too, revolutionary, first game I know of that had the batting cursor. Plus it will always hold a special place in my heart because I threw a perfect game with Bobby Ojeda against the Brewers on that game, only perfect game i have ever thrown on video baseball.
