    Pitching Help

Can any of you experts offer up some pitching help? The CPU is pounding me on all levels.

I mix up speed and location, usually going for the corners. I keep curve balls down, and I have sliders trail low and away. I also like using a changer up and in after a faseball or two. I try to emphasize the strongest pitches for each pitcher, and I try to throw some outside of the zone.

The CPU rarely bites on bad pitches, and rocks pretty much anything in the zone. Even a good share of my outs are on rockets hit right at my infielders.

It has been a while since I struggled this much with pitching in a baseball game. Any tips? Thanks in advance.

    You just need practice.

Switch to batter view. You can locate pitches better. Try to get a feel for the strike zone then switch back to BTP view when you're ready.

          mix it up, man.

pitch selection. fast, fast, slow. slow, slow, fast. sliders up and outside, changeups outside, fastball up and down, if all they have is a 2 seamer, use it down more than up, if they have a 2 seam and 4, use 4 down 2 up, mix up sliders up and in down and away, rarely is it a good idea to pitch inside and down with a slider. a Cutter maybe. speaking of which, cutters should beup in the zone or away. curves down, use the changeup up and away more than down, but mix every now and then. It's all just mixing it, but not so much that the hitter catches on to the fact that you're mixing. So as in not fast slow fast, but fast slow slow. curve down, changeup up, fastball up and in.

just mix it up like that, and it will spell success. Often watching what other pitchers do will give you some ideas on how to pitch, or pitches to use for an "out" pitch.

          hope this helps.

This is one reason why this game is not nearly as realistic as everyone claims.

In real life when pitching, you are supposed to keep the ball down. Especially on breaking pitches. In this game, you get lit up time after time if you keep the ball down. I have much better success constantly throwing offspeed stuff and breaking stuff up in the zone. In real life this is a big time no no, but in this game thats what you have to do to get people out consistnently.

That's TOTAL BS. I pitch almost exclusively down in the zone and dominate this game... and no, it's not rookie level either.

I think you can be very successful pitching by the book in this game. I save high pitches for heat and sliders and keep everything else low and on the corners. My first game on All-Star (don't play there now), was a 5 hit shutout with Ortiz, so it can definately be done.
