Try batting practice. Like it or not, ASB has a learning curve to it, for hitting. Spend sometime in batting practice and get to notice what the different pitches look like, and then see what happens. I am doing quite well batting. I am seeing foul balls down the line, shots into the corner and the such. This is probably the "most realistic" batting interface of any game

This is good to hear. I don't mind a learning curve; if practice is the answer I'll give it a try. Are you using 2-D cursor hitting?

Timing helps, but the placement seems more important. Think of it this way; the interior of the cursor is the sweet spot on the barel of the bat. With proper timing, a little outside influence will pull the ball. Try it out using rookie or classic speed in batting practice. You can really see the influence of cursor placements on your hits. On sim speed it's pretty hard to really turn on a pitch, unless you are set up and swing a little outside of it. So instead of the "missle command" tactic, swing a little past ball.

Also try setting up with your cursor a little outside to begin with (if you want to pull the ball). For example, swinging outside w/ the cursor will result in the ball being pulled, as long as you are swinging at the appropriate height. Obviously. WAY outside means you hit it off the lower part of the bat (your hands) and it's a nubber or flare. But if you are just slightly outside of the pitch, you yank it down the line.

I have to disagree with you there. I don't find it unrealistic at all. Here's an example: with a runner on first, a hitter generally will attempt to hit behind the runner (to the right field side). The 3D hitting cursor allows you to do that. Or if you've got a runner on 3rd, and only 1 out, it allows you to aim to hit it high and deep. What's unrealistic about that?

I find that the tilting of the bat before a swing to dictate which direction you want the ball to go is not realistic. Hitting in the air, on ground, pushing, pulling pitches should be determined by timing, pitch location, type of pitch, etc., but not the angling of the bat before a pitch is thrown IMHO.
