Re: For those who have played for a week may I ask...

classic base running is that simple... you press the dirctional pad for the base your on.. up for 2b left for 3b etc... and press (Y) to advance.. ONE RUNNER to send that runner back.. you press B.... the only thing that the L,R are used for are controlling all runners... try it it is way better... trust me.. before learning about classic... i was running into double and triple plays like crzzy... once you try it you will never go back...

Re: For those who have played for a week may I ask...

Well I returned mine after two days, but I thought you might want to know why.

      Likes:
Liked the fact that the various uniforms were usuable right away.
Late game AI was fairly good.
      Announcing was good.

      Dislikes:
Zone hitting is awful. Sometimes I hit 10 homers in a game. Next year have a zone hitting model that works because A LOT of people hate cursor hitting.

Sound is awful. Hardly any sound at all when the ball hits the glove.

Balls changing directions and running up into someone's glove. Whether they are graphical glitches or not, they shouldn't be there.

      Fielder cam...worst idea ever.

The fact that I can hit the ball out of the catcher's mitt is just awful.

I hear the game has a fantastic franchise mode, but I never saw it because zone batting was so screwed up and cursor hitting was not an option for me. Also being forced to use the fielder cam online took away that option for me as well because I may have kept the game had conventional fielding been allowed online.
No, I didn't draft Grossman on my fantasy team, what do you think I am an idiot?

Re: For those who have played for a week may I ask...

            What I Love:
            - The gameplay! It is by far the most authentic representation of baseball that I have played in a long time. The only game that comes close to ASB is High Heat. I loved HH but it's franchise mode left something to be desired - something that ASB excels in!
            - The detailed stadiums (especially the fake signs that resemble real-life advertisements).
            - I never realized how deep Franchise Mode really is!
            - The ability to play in the Homerun Derby and the Futures Game during All-Star Weekend.

            What I Like:
            - I like the playermodels because they are scaled VERY PROPERLY. Other games' scaling do not look properly (eg: either they are too thin, or their heads are too big, etc.). However, the texturing on the playermodels could use a little more work. Although I haven't tried this for myself yet but I think ASB's faces look alot more realistic (and less like burnt victims) if you play it on an HDTV. Either way, I'm a former HH player and ASB's graphics blow HH's out of the water.
            - The cardboard crowd. I realize that today's consoles cannot replicate 3D crowds without taking a performance hit. So I'm happy with the photorealistic crowd that actually resembles real people. I love how RedSox fans would wear "Yankees Suck" shirts - haha! I wish they wouldn't clap so damn much but I don't notice that all too much.

            What I Dislike:
            - I'm going to get yelled at by many here. Although I LOVE the Expansion mode, the expansion stadiums are kindof unrealistic and/or bland. Alot of the expansion stadiums have rollercoasters in the background? There were only a few truly nice parks.
            - The walk-up music option. It seems kinda incomplete because (1) you can only have up to 99 songs, (2) the song only plays occasionally (like around the 5th inning) and (3) if the song plays, you can't hear the PA announce the batter's name. Good idea, poor execution.
            - The replay system should have more flexibility. I LOVE the pre-set angles because most of the time, it is difficult (in other games) to manually set up the camera so that you get a nice angle. However, I wish you could at least rotate the camera. Also, I wish we were able to track players instead of just tracking the ball.
            - I'm going to get flamed for this but the commentary seems a bit bland. Yes, I know Thom and Steve go off on tangents often. But so far, it seems as if they talk for a while and then suddenly there's alot of silence. Maybe it's because I'm still in Spring Training...
            - Although I haven't experienced it myself, I heard the Trade AI is poor. There are barely any trades on July 31st and when there are trades, there aren't any high-profile players being moved.

            What I Hate:
            - Homerun Cameras. You can almost never see your batter do his Homerun Animation. Instead, you just see an awkward angle in which we rarely ever see on television. I know I have the ability to turn them off but if I turn off the HR cameras, then I can only see the ball's flight via the Fielder, 2004 or Classic cameras.
            - The pre-game presentation. They ONLY show the Lineup for the Away Team and the Starting Pitcher for the Home Team. Then at the bottom of the 1st, they make no mention of who's on the mound for the next team and who's coming up to bat. This is a very glaring omission that I'm surprised was not rectified.

What difficulty level and pitch speed where you using with Zone hitting, I think that makes a difference to how easy it is to hit the long ball but I agree it is way too easy to hit homers with Zone hitting on the lower difficulties. You also don't get the variety of hits (no fouls) you do with cursor. I also noticed too many slow grounders hit right in front of the plate that go for base hits by the time the pitcher gets to them.

                            - Can't turn off/on DH rule for each league.

Overall I really like ASB. I listed a lot of dislikes because I really want to see these things corrected. Last year I gave up on it after I realized how broken zone hitting was and that 75% of the hits were flyballs. Right now it's the one I play the most.

One thing that I really don't like so far, is that you hardly ever get to see the batters individual homerun celebrations. I have yet to see Griffey's strut or Sosa's hop & I've seen them hit quite a few homers. Please give us a camera choice in next years game that allows you to see the celebrations for the players that have one.
