    Well I think if you just edit the roster before you begin a franchise...you can then load it and begin a franchise....using the edited roster. If you do it before starting the franchise you can add players to any team, I believe.

            There is another way. What I've done is all free agents and certain special traded players (like Chris Reitsma) are signed and traded to their respective teams. This works well with the trade override. Say I want to get Urbina to the Tigers. I sign him, then trade him to the Tigers for a player I may need to edit. With the trade override, you can place players on their respective teams despite if the team wants to deal or not.

                  Hmm, pretty nice, I'll try that. I'll create a player, and move him to that team. I edited some random IF on the Red Sox and named him Millar, gave him the closest batting stance and face. Only problems this guy throws left, and Millar throws right but no biggie. Hey, I'm gonna make K Matsui and trade him to the Mets but first, what does his batting stance look like?
