I agree 100% and think it applies to all sports games. Ofcourse it is a little easier for me to say since I am in my 30's and most of my friends don't even play video games and certainly wouldn't be impressed with my accolades. It is just me, the CPU and the challenge/realism that keeps us together.

If I were younger and had a bunch of buddies who played, I might be more inclined to establish some milestones for bragging rights. I do remember going through a brief phase with Tecmo Bowl on the NES where it was fun to build up ridiculous stats. But that got boring pretty quickly and took away the realism which is utlimately what I find most enjoyable about these games.

I was having the same reservation as you about the game. I had it last year and it seemed every game I played was low scoring. I just picked up the game yesterday and my first game was 8-7. After playing half the night I can tell you that pitching is not nearly as accurate as it was last year. You'll still have some good pitcher's duels but offensively the CPU has stepped it up. And for me, it makes the game even more enjoyable. Now if I could just get that baserunning down!

Thanks KJones. Last night I played a couple games, won one 3-1 and lost one 2-0, both against the Red Sox with my Dodgers in spring training. This is on default All-Star. I'm not worried about it, as I realize there are lower scoring games every once in a while. And, the fact that last year, most Dodger games were this score (great pitching, non-existant offense). I'm glad the potential is there.

I really am enjoying this game. I loved it last year, and this year's additions are exactly what I wanted to see last year (especially random schedules - makes multiple seasons more enjoyable).

            Thanks for the answers guys!

I would find it hard to believe that anyone couldn't find a challenge with ASB. In addition to the various skill levels, you can add difficulty by removing the pitching cursor or even use an unorthadox camera angle for added challenge.

On the other hand, I won't promise anything because there are always people who seem to dominate the CPU no matter what. I am kind of glad that I am a mediocre gamer. I can almost always find a challenging level with a sports game.

Well, I have no concerns now, as the Indians just smacked me for 8 runs off 8 hits. I walked 6 batters!! Not a good day. This was on all-star using "smart" generated counts.

I really recommend using smart counts. They are implemented very well, make it more of a challenge, and definitely speed up the pace of the game.

Yeah, I can for sure attest that the CPU scores. I just lost 20 to 1 to the Yankess.

The smart counts are really fun and I think make each game different. The game before that, my pitchers were playing much better, this game, I got a lot of 3-0 counts to start with. Walked over 10 batters. Wasn't ready for pitching changes, and my guys got rocked.
