I agree with pressing the throw button when trying to grab a ball off the ground. Whoever gave that tip has saved my a lot of extra baggers.I also found if you can't get the lock on for the fly ball to keep moving. You have a better chance of catching it on the move than standing there still in the bulls-eye without the lock on.

Sometimes pitchers will forget to slide step once in a while, even when you have a fast guy on base. Wait it out and see if he doesn't forget and gives you one pitch with the big leg throw - then run.

How about the snap throw? or pick mid-windup? I have been able to do each about twice and could never do it again. What is the secret?

You think the fact the controls are a bit on the quirky side and sparsley documented could be one of the reasons this game gets so many negative reviews? It pisses me off that this game is so close to perfect if they would just spend a year polishing the hell out of everything instead of adding new stuff.

Snap throw: Hold the Left Trigger after pitcher releases ball DURING pitch delvery and do not let go. And while holding the left trigger press the button that corresponds to the base you want to throw to.

Pick off moves mid wind up are great but tricky. You have to be almost immediate with your press of the base button after you press the pitch button.


Also, I have to agree with the poster who pointed out how tough, thereby being the most realistic, it is to steal. You really have to lock your focus in on the pitchers thigh and go with his 1st movement. And even then, you better be speedy and hope the catcher does not have a strong arm.

Here though, is my gripe with that part of the game. I have never been picked off at any base regardless of my lead. Also, it is too easy to stop and return to the original base if the throw beats you badly. Anyone else noticing this?

I've been picked off before, usually with a lead of "3" button presses or more.......

ah, that's it. the manual just says 'pre-pitch' so i thought it was something you can just 'signal' to your guy and then he takes off at the right time. i guess i have to time it. that makes sense. i just haven't had a lot of chances to practice since 1) i don't have a lot of speedy guys on my team i usually play with (phillies) and 2) for some reason i seem to either hit doubles or homers (when i can actually get a hit).

oh, and as for the fielding, i am getting better but still have times, especially with screamers, when the ball just jets right by me. i do think pressing a base button makes a big difference when picking up the ball in the outfield after a hit.
