Re: Hitting with the 2D cursor

The best way to get hit variety for me in ASB05? 3-d cursor with the power swing toggled on, on fastest pitch speed. You get a good share of foulballs, chopped grounders and lined hits. Being a novice I use the hitting aid and strike zone box.

Too many pop ups on 2-d cursor even when you make solid contact. ASB needs to fix this hitting mode as well as zone.

Re: Hitting with the 2D cursor

I have to say it again. I'm lovin this game on 3-d cursor, power swing, and fastest pitch speed. I strike out a lot but at least I'm rewarded once and while with a HR when I make solid contact. 2-d cursor is so dull. Powerless hitters pop up even if I target the bat perfectly. On 3-d power swing, the cursor is much smaller, so contact is less solid, meaning more grounders and foulballs. More lined outs result too because you hit the ball harder with the power swing on. The only annoying thing is that Steve Lyons will constantly rag on you for swinging for the fences. You try 2-d cursor, Steve!!

I also have both the hitting aid and strike zone on, and pitching aid off. Playing on All-Star difficulty, I'm getting realistic results and surprisingly finding the game not that hard. I'll probably become good enough to play with no hitting aid, which is a huge step up for me. I'm a pretty average gamer.

The 2D continues to baffle me, but 50 games into my season, I am beginning to see some trends that I hope are just coincidence. I have been playing slighty under .500 for most of the season. Whenever I string together a couple wins and approach the .500 mark, I can almost count on a game where I will have no offense. It doesn't matter who is pitching against me or how squarely I put the cursor on the ball, I am going see a ton of grounders to the 2nd baseman and lazy fly balls.

I hate games that get harder/easier depending upon your win-loss record. It would really be disappointing if it were the case here.

I am still going to put in some more time with this, but if my hitting woes continue, I may have to go back to WSB2k3. And that would suck because I would really miss the stadiums, music, announcing and all the other things that rock in this game.

Carter, I also thought about going 3D and using the power swing all the time, but that really screws contact hitters.

Yeah. I've had a bit of trouble hitting using batters with puny power cursors. I had to switch to the slower pitch speed (classic) just to compensate. The gameplay is still realistic but the power hitters are driving the ball to the gaps more than the contact hitters. I guess I'll have to load my roster with a bunch of Russell Branyans.

I wish I knew what hitting system the CPU was using against me. The CPU seems to get a real nice variety; gappers, hits down the line, Texas leaguers as well as pop ups, line drives, grounders, you name it.

I think the CPU is using something between power cursor and 2-d cursor. The timing on power swing is just about perfect. I'm getting a good share of foulballs to both fields and down the lines. The cursor just needs to be larger for contact hitters.

Now I've switched to contact cursor for contact hitters with really tiny power cursors. The ball is going mostly to center but that's something I can live with since I'm getting lined hits. For hitters with at least decent power (at least a D+ rating) I use the power cursor.
