Re: I can\'t get anyone out this year

I agree with all the replys, CPU hitters are very good this year. Last year I had to adjust my pitching so the CPU could hit more, this year the CPU is perfect. Right now I'm 15-11 playing on Legend w/ Sim-Fastest & 3-D Cursor. I'm tied for first place(Cubs) w/ Houston and all I can say is that it's gonna be one heck of a season. I'm glad they upped the A.I. for the CPU, way to go Acclaim.
Coming is my style, but I have to go.

Hmmm, I'm having the opposite problem. I'm breezing thru the CPU. I've tried Legend and All Star. 35 games into my seaon, im hovering around a 2.00 ERA with my Braves. I don't remember the last time I got really rocked and it's almost getting boring because it seems like every game im going into the 5th inning and beyond without giving up a run.

I just mix up my pitches. I start out with just about anything. Fastball low and away, fastball inside, then I paint the low outside corners with a slider or curve, then I'll get a strikeout if I come inside on the low corner with another curve, or I go low middle with a changeup.

The only pitcher I have trouble with is my 5th starter, Jaret Wright. No matter how good a game he's having, his fatigue bar is just about gone after 6 innings, so occasionally he'll get rocked. But Ortiz, Hampton, and Thompson are cruising. I have trouble even throwing balls with Thompson he's so accurate.

Re: I can\'t get anyone out this year

I always cruise through 4 innings then in 5th, BOOM I get rocked for like 8-9 hits and 4-5 runs nomatter who is pitching Pedro, Schilling, Lowe, Wakefield they all get rocked. It's not an every game kinda thing but it's consistant enough to frustrate me.
I have yet to have a deffensive game ie:2-1, 3-2 type of scores there all like 5-4, 8-6, 12-8.
On the flip side in MVP I've scored more than 10 runs twice both AAA games, in ESPN I've only done it twice. My scores in those games are always 3-1, 4-2 with an accessional 9-6 game.
I just find the AI a little unrealisticly good. Even guys that are bad hitters ar taking pitches that are barely out of the strike zone.

Re: I can\'t get anyone out this year

Through trying to create the perfect expansion team for me (over and over and over) I've found that some years you'll get a burst outta some guys, and others you won't. Some years your pitching will start off hot, and others it won't. Take for example in my most recent installment, Ugueth Urbina has blown two saves out of three thus far. But aside from that it also depends on whether or not you've found the right difficulty settings for YOU. Nobody (well, nobody you should give a crap about) is going to call you a wimp for using Rookie if that's the most realistic level of play you have to use to play a season. Hard to imagine, but for some people this game could be too easy even at the highest difficulty levels. Or at least that's what I hear from time to time, but that doesn't make anyone more or less of a gamer in my eyes. Just find the level that suits you, make a player profile, and start playing!

But as for the hits, I can't say I've run into that problem frequently. If my pitcher is REALLY on, and they're good...like Javier Vasquez...they'll give up like 4 or 5 hits a game, MAX. The only constant I've found thus far has been Aaron Sele. The guy has been a monster for me. he gets around 4 k's a game and goes the distance, usually into the 7th or 8th. He ususally ends up as the pitcher on my team with the lowest ERA and the highest win count. I remember something like this with him last year, too. Is ASB just in love with Aaron Sele or something?

Re: I can\'t get anyone out this year

I just had another 5-2 win on Legend, 2-d cursor, classic pitch speed. I had a 0-0 game going into the 4th then I hit a 3 run shot with JD Drew. Next batter, Adam LaRoche got hit in the face by Shane Reynolds with no ejections or warnings. So, in the next inning with Reynolds up 2nd, I threw a high fastball under his chin (didn't hit him) and Thomson immediately got tossed. I brought in Gryboski who then cruised through till the 7th. I hit back to back HR with Giles and Chipper. I brought in Cruz in the 8th who gave up 2 runs and then shut them out in the 9th with Smoltz.

I haven't played a lot of games on this setting yet, but I must say I love the realistic games. The hitting is so much better. Since the cursors are small, you really get good wood on the pitches you make contact with. It's cut down dramatically on the dink hits, the lazy flies, etc. When you make contact, you make hard contact. I think this is the setting I'm sticking with.
