A couple questions about this game...

I am thinking about getting this game or MVP Baseball. Please help me decide based on the following factors:

#1- Player progression. Will my rookie get slightly better during the season, and get better and better each year, and as you get older, they get worse?

#2 - Gameplay. How is fielding worked? With a ball hit in the gap, will the outfieler bare hand the ball and throw it right away. Is there passed balls, wild pitches? What about throwing errors? Is it better than MVP? Will, after a strikeout, my catcher throw it to third base, or sometimes even first base? Are double players RARELY broken up by the runner to second base(like in MVP, it agitates me how the 2nd base runner ALWAYS breaks up my double play, rather than the batter beating the hit out. (I played the MVP BAseball demo on the PC).

#3 - Franchise/Whatever it's called mode - Can somebody list the pros and cons of this mode? Will you be able to put players on the trading block like MVP? Sign new people for high contracts? Make three-way trades? How is the minor leagues? Is it as good as MVP baseball?

#4 - Crowd reactions - Does the crowd start cheering on a 1-2 count after a long inning? even a short inning? Are the Yankee fans louder than everyone else? (COUGH ).

#5 - How are player ejections and suspensions handled?

#6 - I know I will have more questions later.

    Thanks in advance.

Re: A couple questions about this game...

#1- Player progression. Will my rookie get slightly better during the season, and get better and better each year, and as you get older, they get worse?

Not during the season, but year by year, depending on their age affects their progression, if the guys young, he'll improve a good chunk, if the guys in his prime, he'll improve a little or not at all, then when he's past his prime, he'll get worse gradually. However, you can add to their development with spring training by earning points (you earn them by achieving goals in games, most of the points are earned at the end of Spring Training).

(I played the MVP BAseball demo on the PC).

More often than not, if the outfielder will bare hand the ball and quickly throw it back to the infield (I suggest using the cutoff men). There's also a feature that lets you make the outfielder take a couple of steps back, then get a little run start while catching the ball then throwing it back in the infield (on a flyball that's catchable that is, a routine one). There are passed balls, wild pitches and dropped third strikes. The double plays, most are completed, but a fast runner can beat you out at first. Once in a while it'll be broken up at second. The catcher after a strikeout will throw it to first on the broadcast cams. Speaking of catchers, you can do the snap throws to first in this game, it's explained in the tutorial section (I'm still trying to get this right). A little extra in this game is that after an out is recorded at first, the first basemen or whoever is there will sometimes initiate the throw around the horn (you know, what they do after a put-out before the next batter comes up).

3 - Franchise/Whatever it's called mode - Can somebody list the pros and cons of this mode? Will you be able to put players on the trading block like MVP? Sign new people for high contracts? Make three-way trades? How is the minor leagues? Is it as good as MVP baseball?

The Franchise mode in this game is deep. The only negative is the fact that it doesn't have team chemistry. Here's a list of the Franchise mode:

-Waiver Wire: You can claim people off here or send people here if you send them down to the minors when they have no options, the chances they'll get claimed are a lot lesser than what they had last year.
-Trading Block: You can assign players here that you want to trade, teams will make offers to you for that player. You can initiate the trade here or...
-Trading Players: You can do 2 for 1, 3 for 1, or straight up trades with this feature.
-Position Analysis: You can check other teams' positions to see what they need if you want to acquire a player from that team.
-Rookie Draft: Several Rounds, some players here are scouted for you (while some aren't).
-Prospect Book: Need a player that can help you in your franchise, a youngster? You can check this book to look at the top positional prospects in baseball.
-Long-Term Contracts: You can sign players to long-term deals here during the season.
-Rule V Draft: Similar to Rookie Draft.
                -Arbitration
                -Long-Term Contracts (Winter Meetings)
-Free Agency: You can sign free agents, but be warned, some may already be signed to other teams, some may even cost you a draft pick in the rookie draft.
-Budget Points Distribution: Got leftover points? You can add this points to your staff which contribute to the health of your team (recovery from injury), development of your team, scouting, etc.

#4 - Crowd reactions - Does the crowd start cheering on a 1-2 count after a long inning? even a short inning? Are the Yankee fans louder than everyone else? (COUGH ).

Hmm, where do I start, they applause after an out made by the home team, on a hard hit ball to the outfield, they'll cheer, and boo if it's caught. They'll sometimes boo big-name players of the other team (plus some heckles). They'll cheer in a rally, and on the a two-strike count on the final at-bat of the inning.

#5 - How are player ejections and suspensions handled?

Ejections, usually happen when the player charges the mound. At that time, either the pitcher, player or both are ejected. Sometimes the ump issues a warning and if you throw inside (or the computer), the pitcher will get tossed. Suspension, not sure if they're in the game.

You can change all the cameras, home run cut scenes, and playing preferences.

Re: A couple questions about this game...

I'll make it short and say that ASB is better than MVP in all those modes. I've had them both.

Here are the few gripes i have about ASB.

                      1. Baserunning is gawd awful. Not only is it counter-intuitive, sometimes it just flat out doesnt work. It's just awful, but with enough practice, you can make something useful out of it.

                      2. Games are slow. Kind of like real baseball. Good if your into hte whole atmosphere thing, and bad if youre trying to squeeze a game in between classes. There is in-game saves though.

                      3. MVP has a leg up on the graphics dept. ASB's stadiums look fanatastic, but the players just arent as sharp as MVPs. ASB makes up for it by having some slick animations that MVP doesnt have and the players faces look amazingly like the real players.

                      4. Fanchise menu navigation is clumsy and slow, but there is no game anywhere that gives you the franchise mode experience that ASB does. Well, except maybe OOTP for hte PC.

In short, clunky baserunning is the only thing keeping this from being the best baseball game ever. Im hoping with more experience i'll get better at it.
