jjoe said:You've got to be kidding. where'd you get this information from? That means the average number of pitches per inning is 9 and the average number of pitches per game is 81. I think it is EXTREMELY rare that a game will end with 81 pitches being thrown on average. In fact if you read this article, you'll see the average number of pitches per game is 285. Divide this number by 2 and then divide it by 27 outs and you get approximately 6 pitches per at bat. REad this: http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp...nguage=printer

Keep in mind that everytime a pitcher retires a batter on 1 pitch, he'd have to throw 10 pitches to the next batter to keep up with the average.

Lol. Think about what you're saying before trying to ridicule me. Unless Randy Johnson pitches every game, you will see a little bit more than 27 batters a game. My info is correct. The average number of pitches per plate appearance IS 3. In fact, EVERY SINGLE PLAYER in the majors last year averaged less than 4 pitches seen per plate appearance.

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

I wasn't trying to ridicule you. My mistake in calculation (math is not my strongpoint). Nevertheless, even at 4 pitches per at bat, everytime you retire a hitter on 1 or 2 pitches, you have to make up for it with 8-9 pitches on the next hitter to make the average. All I'm saying is that without a good number of foul balls, you can't get this. But I wasn't trying to ridicule you at all.

shortstop goes deep in the whole and makes the jump throw, outstanding.

I saw this for the first time yesterday, but it was my secondbaseman. You know the graphics are fine, they just need to work on some of the other animations.

Re: Getting past the frustration and getting a better understanding

I just can't do anything with 2d cursor...I started my season using manage mode on offense but about half way through the season I got fed up with the lack of offense and the lame looking , overly abundant strikeouts. 3D, timing and zone hitting I quickly learned are unrealistic in the other direction. So 2D is the only option.

I cannot string together hits or put up more than 2 or 3 runs in a game. In fact in all the games I've played on manage only or 2d(atleast 100); I don't remember ever scoring more than 3 runs in a game ...ever. The only way I score is on homeruns by Sosa, Alou or Ramirez.

I have it set on rookie when I hit on the slowest pitch speed. I've tried guessing pitch and/or location on every pitch. I've tried setting up the cursor in the hot zone and only swinging if the ball is going right in the cursor. Nothing works...I make contact but it's usually weak and when I do hit it hard it's right at someone.

Before you tell me you have to know something about baseball to hit in this game, etc., I should mention that from very early on in the season I have been pitching on legend with strike zone, pitching aid, and vibration all turned off and I lead the majors in ERA by a mile. So, I win enough games to be in 1st place but I'm getting sick of nothing but 1-0, 2-1 games.

I'm not an experienced video game player; so maybe it's just a lack of coordination or there has to be something basic I'm not doing right. Or is it possible that since I pitch so well the AI levels things out and keeps games close by not allowing me to score many runs? Do they build that into video games?

Well...any advice anyone can give me I'd appreciate it. I'd hate to have to give up on this game which I love so much about.

                  ragnar,

Do you have the pitch aid and strike zone ON? Practice with it on, and like you say, slow pitch speed. I try to keep my 2d cursor at the bottom of the strike zone and work it up to the pitch location. That allows me to leave the cursor there on those 12-6 curveballs I see coming at me.

I know what you mean about cursor. Last years game I would be swinging when the ball was back in the pitchers hand the pitch speed was so fast, but after practicing I love it.

                  good luck.

I've used the strike zone on and off...the hitting aid, I really haven't used. It seemed too distracting. Maybe I need to give it another, more extended try.

What about guess pitch and/or location? Do you use either or both?

No, no guess pitch. If I'm wrong the cursor gets smaller and I don't need that.

Man, I think if you just give it some time. One thing I do use is generated pitch count, RANDOM. That seems to help me make choices.

For example, if I'm 3-0 I know I'm taking a least one pitch.
If I'm 0-2 I know the CPU should be nibbling. I'm I'm 2-1. 3-1 I'm thinking the CPU is going to be around the plate.
