    2D Hitting Help

Hey guys--I could use a little help with 2D hitting. I am walking just fine about 3-4 per game and I have managed to cut my K's down to about 8 (after starting with 15 and 13). The highest amount of hits I have gotten is 6 and I usually average around 3. I keep flying out or popping up. Any tips? If there is a thread on it, please point me in that direction. I looked through about 10 pages and didn't see anything. Any help would be appreciated as I am having a blast with this game. This is a true baseball fan's game.

First thing is you have to check your hitters hot and cold zones. Then you wait for a pitch in that zone and drive it. I dont guess the pitch type cause if you get it wrong the cursor minimizes and makes it extremely difficult. The other big thing is timing. It has to be right on to hit the ball hard, otherwise you will continue to get the pop ups and weak grounders. I was killing on 3D so I made the move down and struggled as well for the first 3 or 4 games. I then went to BP mode and worked on it until I felt comfortable.

Could you help me with walking? I generally get none, or maybe one intentional walk. What strategies do you use, or is it just patience?

Yeah for the most part it is patience. I set a goal to make the pitcher throw an avg of 12 pitches an inning. That accompanied with waiting until I get a pitch in my hot zone helps. Now with 2 strikes you have to be more guarded so I try to stay alive by fouling off as many as I can until I get a walk or put it in play. I dont have the strike zone turned on and I will see some called 3rd strikes go by but thats realistic. Also, the further along the game gets the more tired the pitcher gets and tends to be more sporadic in regards to the strike zone. I dont walk 5 or 6 times a game but normally get from 1-4. I have still had games with no walks(not counting IBB) and I have had one game against Detroit where I was walked 9 times. Work the pitcher like they try to work you.

Hey thanks for the tips...I didn't even realize the hot/cold zones. Another question--should I be aiming the cursor right on the ball or slightly up or down? Thanks again. As far as walks, I really try to be patient as you have stated. I almost always don't swing at the 1st pitch and really try to approach it like a real at bat. This game actually will work the hitter which is great. I am really glad I gave this game another chance.
