first off i'd like to say that i have either owned or rented the following games for the 2004 season: MVP Baseball, MLB, and ASB. While these three titles offer something unique that the others don't, i can't help but be disappointed that not one of these games could put together a completely solid realistic baseball sim. I should have just saved my time and money and just kept playing HH 2004. I mean this game does so much right. Playing these other games makes me realize how great this title is. So so graphics and audio notwithstanding, HH 2004's gameplay is without question second to none. Want unlimited seasons in franchise mode? What about player progression that actually works? How about intelligent CPU AI? What about realistic linescores? Want the CPU to steal bases and execute the hit and run on you? Want your lefthanded baters to not only hit their share of homeruns but to actually hit them to the opposite field? Hey, it's all in here, the total package. There is no doubt that the pitcher/ batter interface is the best of all games out there. I can't count how many times i was able to hit that green zone pitching in MVP, just got too damn easy for me. HH 2004 takes into account all the abilities (fielding/ batting/ pitching) of all pitchers and hitters and puts it all together beautifully. I'm just sorry that i left it for better style and glitz the other games offered instead of choosing steallar gameplay. Let me know how you feel.

PICKING SUBSTANCE OVER STYLE!!!!

Re: PICKING SUBSTANCE OVER STYLE!!!!
I agree. HH is a great game. After playing MVP and ASB I considered going back to HH2004 as well. However, ESPN has been a great game so far for me. It's drawn me in. Maybe not as much as HH used to, but it's still a good game where the AI does many things right - just like HH.
Hopefully one of these companies will be able to replicate the true feeling of baseball that HH gave us. ESPN comes very close IMO, but it's still no HH. -

Re: PICKING SUBSTANCE OVER STYLE!!!!
I traded MVP for HH2004 and havent looked back. The game out the box feels more polish than the other games. I started on pro and now I am on all-star and this has stayed in my X-box. I care about style but this game blows, i mean blows MVP out the water. This game is a keeper.Comment

Hey Joeboo,
do you really feel that ESPN is the way to go? If it's not too much trouble let me know how so. I want to know about the player progression, gameplay, everything. I bought WSB 2k3 last year and i want to know if a serious upgrade over it. Anyone else who has this game please feel free to fill me in.Comment

Re: PICKING SUBSTANCE OVER STYLE!!!!
rj - Well for me ESPN is the way to go. I wasn't fond of last years WSB, but something about this years ESPN has me hooked. It plays a very good game of baseball. CPU steals, hit and runs, brings in LH pitchers to face tough LH batters etc... However, one glitch I've seen is that the CPU can not sacrifice bunt. It will bunt for a basehit, but can't sacrifice.
I can't comment on player progression since I'm still in my first season. Guys do get tired throughout the season though and are more likely to get injured if you play them while they're tired. One thing about ESPN is that it's not a game that you'll be able to play real well right away. You have to give it time (10-15) games. Pitching is difficult and once you get the hang of it, the game's a blast.
I'm a sucker for buying the newest game every year. IMO HH is still the king though. I'm not sure there ever will be another game even close to HH. However, ESPN is the closest thing for me this year.Comment
