EA has an exclusive on emo(there soundtracks have been LOADED with those kinds of songs for years).

Mogwai is not emo, Cornelius isn't emo, DJ Spooky isn't emo. Most of these bands are emo.

That being said, while I like the soundtrack, I will agree with you that they aren't all the best choices for a baseball game. I will say that they were all selections from one of the stations in the next generation GTA, I would probably tune into that station.

I am glad that they tried to break the mold for a licenced soundtrack.

Just curious, what exactly do you guys call "emo"? When I think of emo music I think of Dashboard Confessional, Death Cab For Cutie, Story of the Year, Good Charlotte, Hawthorne Heights, and many other similar, cookie-cutter bands that I don't care for. How and why do some of you consider Mogwai, Louis XIV, The Bravery, Snow Patrol, DJ Spooky, Bear Vs. Shark, Cornelius, Pavement, The Fall of Troy, Early Man, stellastar*, Steriogram, Dropkick Murphys, The Zutons, and the Rock 'n Roll Soldiers "emo"?

Seriously, I am really questioning the musical taste in some of you right now, it's perplexing...

I admit that I myself cast the emo net too far in my own comment... I should have said punk-pop(which contains emo).

A lot of the artists on the 2k6 playlist don't even approach punk-pop(I mean, B&S is twee, and Cornelius/Mogwai are noise pop, and if you are "dj" anything, the likelihood that you play emo is very slim).

EDIT: In looking at my comment, I made a typo when I said "are" in the statement "Most of these bands are emo" when in fact it should have said "aren't"... which could be the reason for your own comment loosecannon... if you read the comment with that change in mind, the preceding use of "isn't" makes more sense, does it not? Sorry for any confusion that may have caused, because believe me, I am on your side on this.

Cool, no harm no foul, heh. It just bugs me when some people label any bands they don't like as "emo bands", it's just a really dumb and lazy way to say "I don't like those bands". Anyways, what I wrote wasn't directed at you, so please don't take any offense.

That all being said, I think Madden 06's inclusion of some of the NFL Films music puts that half of the soundtrack above most of the stock sports soundtracks I've heard in the past few years. When I owned it, I turned the other licenced tracks off.

Yeah, baseball games without the trademark ESPN Baseball and Baseball Tonight themes kinda sucks. I really wish next year 2K Sports would strike a deal with Fox Sports so they could use their music and overlays, that would be the next best thing to ESPN really. It's just kinda weird when MLB 2K6 has a very Fox Sports Baseball type of presentation to it and College Hoops 2K6 has a very CBS Sports feel to it, yet neither games have the actual licenses.

On a side note, anyone remember when Madden back in the Genesis/SNES days had the Fox Sports Football theme in it? Or how about when NBA Live on PSX had the TNT logos and Verne Lundquist calling games? I miss the days when "exclusive licenses" was only a glimmer in the eye of an EA Sports head honcho....

You would have thought that when EA got the NFL Films thing locked up, they would have put the music for Monday Night Football into the game.

I will say that somehow, playing a game of NCAA Football feels very ABC to me.

Yes I forgot that as well, hell they have 2/3 of the College Gameday crew, haha. Now that EA Sports is implementing ESPN into their games, NCAA Football 2007 damn well better include all the College Gameday ESPN/ABC stuff, otherwise I'll be pissed if EA doesn't do anything great with the ESPN license.

Bear vs. Shark is awesome so are some of the other bands on there. But yeah, not exactly baseball music.

Can you still costomize the songs that play for each batter? I hope so because the Benny Hill theme song always needs to be played before Brad Ausmus bats.
