    Making Money In GM Mode???

Does anyone know if you make money in GM mode? I had several home games but my profits never increased. I only have 100K left in the profits section. If there is no actual profits, then I won't be able to buy an Inside Edge report for the rest of the season, and I'm only five games in!!!

Does anyone know if your profits increase throughout the season? I'm not sure you actually can. In fact, I simmed an entire season and the profit never increased at all. It seems like whatever profit you start the season with is all you have to work with in terms of spending on Inside Edge, free agents, etc... Once you use it up, there is no more to work with.

The worst of it is that in GM mode, you start off with net losses of 69 million for the Giants and a max budget of 79 million. So thats 10 million to use for Inside Edge for the entire season, which would be OK... but the big problem is that the Owner makes a goal of not exceding spending of 71 million. That means you can't spend more than 2 million dollars all year on Inside Edge, and thats assuming you don't make any signings or anything else. So basically, you can get some Inside Edge reports on like three or four teams and then your done for the whole season. Whats the point of even having IE in the game if you can barely use it in the GM mode.

Well, you will get profits to increase/decrease. Just so you know... complete your goals early, and you'll get them. Unfortunately they want me to get rid of Omar Vizquel, so I'll do that at the very end of the season.

Also, you'll have some implicit goals that he'll just come up with, like winning a series against a rival team, or going on a winning streak of some kind. Sometimes, fan attendance will just "increase", and then your payroll will go up that way, too.

I wouldn't say that you should start over now. You're really the one to blame for what you did . But just remember... those IE points are engraved in your career forever more. Nothing too bad.

    So far, I bought:

PADRES: Jake Peavy, Trevor Hoffman, Scott Linebrink, Brian Giles.
DODGERS: Brad Penny, Eric Gagne, J.D. Drew, Jeff Kent.
    DIAMONDBACKS: Shawn Green
    ROCKIES: Entire team

I'm probably going to purchase some individual Mets and Cardinals ones, too. I fear they are going to be tough to beat when I play them, and you MAY know that IE points are more expensive when you're getting closer to playing the team (supply and demand). Perhaps you don't buy everybody now, especially when you're JUST about to play them. I still have just under $5 million.

The real reason I hurt my cause was that to make the game more realistic, I signed Bonds to a big two year contract. He starts off with a salary of 300K, which just seems like cheating. But if you do that, then there is no way you can meet your goals or have IE points. So I'm going to have to start over and just keep Bonds salary where it is at 300K.

You can't do any of the goals early other than the trade goal. The goals you start off with are:

      - Save 27 million over 4 years
      - Keep budget under 71 million at the end of the year
      - Win a World Series
      - Trade Omar Vizguel

How do you complete these goals early to get the boost in profit (other than the trade goal, that one is obvious)...

The worst part is, I simmed the whole season, just to see what happens. Unfortunately, if you don't meet your goals, the owner takes a good bit of money from the budget for the next year. So if you're not willing to trade Omar and you don't win the WS, you're screwed.

      That really stinks IMO!

All of my other ones are different from yours. Your Owner must be an Investor-type, and his focus is making money. Mine is merely a Fan-type, and he's focused on improving the team.

          Mine was a Mavarick type...

How the heck did you get a different owner type despite playing with the same team??? Frankly, I'd rather have the "fan type" owner... it fits better in simulating the Giants real life owner.

In regards to your Barry Bonds contract problem, it's more than likely the guys at 2K inflated the contracts of the other guys on the team to make up for Bonds' small contract.

              Might be wrong though.

Well, you don't "own" the team per se. You have an owner, and you are the general manager. You are given a contract, goals, etc. You may be fired, asked by other teams, etc. It's a 30-year process, and at the end of 30 years, if you've invested enough money, you may be able to buy a team... which then basically makes it Franchise mode.

One of the Cubs goals is to 'get rid of Scott Eyre.' They say he's making too much money. Now although I could see the Trib saying that about any player...they just got him this year! So now I gotta trade him.

Well, one of my goals is to drop Steve Finley... there's no way I'm doing that. As long as I meet some of my other goals, maybe my owner will be nice to me.

Just so you know, every time you start a new GM career, you get a different owner with different goals. You can create your GM, see the owner and goals and keep going back to the previous screen (by hitting the back button... B on xbox) and that will give you a new owner with new goals... that way, you can choose to play for the owner you want. Honestly though, the goals don't change that much. Your always going to have a goal of getting rid of someone... for the Giants its usually Vizguel or Finley, although I saw Alou and Benitez a few times.

Jistic, ho do the player contracts look in the game, are they like real life contracts, or are they fake, plus is the money done in millions?

They are done in millions, but I really don't know if they're truly accurate. I'd have to recheck. I like GM mode, it does have micromanagement, so if you just want the on the field stuff don't do it.

Only thing I am apprehensive about with starting a franchise in GM mode is that I keep thinking I'll get a demand by the owner to trade one of my favorite players and then my funds will be cut if I don't do it.
