    Big problems in the infield

Is anyone else having trouble playing the infield. Often easy grounders to the SS turn into dangerously close plays or even infield singles because for some reason, you can't charge the ball and make a quick throw. It seems like my infielders are stuck in place and have to wait for the ball and then once it gets there and you hold the button down for a hard throw, there is a delay before they release it. Has anyone found a solution to this problem?

Also, is anyone else finding diving to be a problem. I've noticed that a R thumbstick icon sometimes appears under a player sometimes. Are you supposed to dive immediately when that pops up, or is this just a notification that you may have to dive??? I haven't been able to time dives in the IF or OF yet.

I have to say, I'm new to 2K and I am really impressed with this game so far. The pitching is the most brilliant system yet in a baseball game. Swing stick takes some time getting used to, but once you get it down, its great. Fielding and baserunning are the only things that really are drawbacks for me so far...

Yeah, diving is killing me on the infield. Sometimes I can get a good dive off, and other times the ball is way past me. Gets on my nerves, but not killing the game for me.

I flat out love the pitching system this year. Combined with the IE reports and payoff pitches, I am having a blast pitching. Haven't been able to say that in a few years. Baserunning is fine for me. It's like last year and it took me awhile to get used to it last year. I still get confused in some situations though.

Re: Big problems in the infield

When the dive icon pops up that's just mainly their to let you know you can if you want. Doesn't mean you have to. 2K sort of does that in the games for some reason. I always thought it was arcade-ish to always have their specific game feature options pop up sometmies. But oh well.

I haven't really experienced your problem with infielders. Maybe a little bit on charging balls but that's about it. I'd go in to your VIP settings and check to make sure you have Auto Re-Select Fielder marked off on your options. That helps.

Re: Big problems in the infield

I have yet to successfully dive for a ball with an infielder, either way late or I just miss it(dive when I didn't need to). Other than the dive problem, I haven't had many problems at all with the infield. Once I learned to hold the throw button to throw it harder the infield game seemed to play really well for me. There are times when players get stuck in their animations and it is a little frustrating, but is hasn't really hurt me.

The outfield, on the other hand, is causing me some headaches.

Last year, I turned off like... all text and help options so that it would never pop up. This year, I did the same thing, but it doesn't seem that I can turn it off.

Actually, I have yet to turn off Fly Ball Indicator, since I did it last year (still have to get used to judging the flight and path of the ball based on the camera)... but I don't think that will do it either.

I was fooling around with the fly ball indicator last night, it wasn't as hard as I expected but I still let quite a few balls drop right in front of me.

Does the infielding sort of remind other people of the old World Series Baseball games on the Dreamcast? Where pretty much all you did was pitch and hit. Aside from fielding balls in the outfield, which is pretty good IMO, the infield AI seems to get to the ball for you and all you have to do is throw it.

I think you hit it on the head with the infield comparison. It's almost like assisted fielding. I do like playing fly balls hit in the outfield though. Can't tell you how many times I've chased one down and smacked into the wall, then landed on my backside. Seen some pretty cool animations and some pretty bad ones out there. I have noticed also that players will lean into the crowd for foul balls. Same thing for the dugout rail.

Well, I really feel like I'm doing infield work. Remember, I have the Giants. I did plenty of ratings editing to make sure that guys like Vizquel are playing like they do. While Vizquel isn't the fastest runner, he has great range, anticipation, and acceleration. Not a strong arm, but pretty accurate however he's running. Durham has pretty good range, but nothing else really.

Anyway, if you played 2K5, you would be considering the new diving a complete breath of fresh air. I love it compared to what it used to be! Not everything's certain, let alone being certain within 10 feet of you.

Maybe it's just "luck" or whatever you want to call it, but I haven't really had to range out at any of the infield positions to snag a ball. It usually just rolls up to my guy.

And it's not because of shifts or anything, most of the time I'm in normal fielding positioning.

Well, then that has to do with possibly the field being out of proportion with the players, and should expand just a little bit.

man it was so much better when it was WSB.

i miss great baseball games. The last one was MVP, and that got taken out just like the rest of em.

Yes, that's sort of why I was making the comparison.

                              Maybe

But the people that developed WSB for the Dreamcast didn't develop this title as far as I know.

And secondly this a completely new way of fielding in this game. When has Madden's running game drasticly changed? Smartass.
