Re: 360 version only plays in widescreen?
A cheaper solution would be to purchase the vga cables and plug the 360 into your pc monitor. Of course, the bigger the monitor the better it will look. Only other thing you have to worry about is connectng the audio cables while playing. but it you have a good monitor, its a 40 dollar upgrade.Comment

Re: 360 version only plays in widescreen?
For those who have asked about the quality of the "lower end" $500 range HDTV's, although I don't have one myself (I have an $800 samsung 30" HDTV) I will say there are quite a few happy people on OS in the forums I've read who have bought the low end $500 HDTVs and have said they make their gaming much, much more enjoyable.
I do understand those with limited means though as I was just unemployed myself a couple years ago, but I guess I was just saying as has been said in this thread, the 360 is more or less focused on the HDTV market at this point (and so will the PS3) so there will probably be some "issues" for better or worse if you're not on an HD set.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: 360 version only plays in widescreen?
Originally posted by EdRaynesI understand and respect your point. However, having bought a 48" rear projection Sony SDTV only 3 1/2 years ago, no way can I justify buying a HDTV for a game console. At 52, with a wife on disability, and getting custody of a grandchild, we have more pressing financial needs that a new TV purchase. And I'm sure there are a lot of other folks who enjoy gaming that have similiar responsibilities.
From a technical perspective, I've been in the computer business for 28 years working as a developer from business to graphics applications. The current trend of "next-gen" console requirements for HDTV is nonsense. If they want to support HDTV, fine it is the future, but release games that still function in full screen mode on recent SDTV. There are many other programming techniques available for graphics then simply rendereing everything in hi-def. Keep in mind that HDTV penetration in the U.S. is roughly from 15-20% of households. In Europe it is much lower.
Sorry for the rant, I'm just fed up with the current practice of software development in the gaming industry forcing consumers to purchase expensive additional hardware to enjoy the product. The 360 is the best hardware console design to date, but develop the games for both HDTV and SDTV.Comment

If your having a problem go into your 360 dashboard. Go to DISPLAY. Change the Aspect Ratio to 4:3 & then to Pan & Scan.. This should help.
I'm letting my rant go with one further comment. This is a quote from teamxbox in an interview with one of the MS developers.
Question # 33 from the interview.
"33. If my TV has a 4:3 aspect ratio, will I still be able to play games at full screen?"
"Of course you will. The Xbox 360 is compatible with both 16:9 (widescreen) and 4:3 aspect ratio TVs. Just make sure that you set the video settings properly so the Xbox 360 knows which type of TV you have. "
So, the 360 can deal with the issue, however 2K Sports obviously didn't take advantage of this feature in development.Last edited by EdRaynes; 04-12-2006, 11:59 AM.Comment

Re: 360 version only plays in widescreen?
Ill have to check and be sure, but I play on a pc monitor and Im pretty sure I didnt have black bars for what little of the game I was actually able to play. Trying going into your 360 dashboard and looking at the display settings. If its set to full screen, change it to wide screen and see what that does for you. For some reason I have to set mine to the opposite of what I actually want.Comment

Re: 360 version only plays in widescreen?
So does this mean that people with an SDTV will not get full screen in MLB2K6 if they set their Xbox360 to 480p? If so that is a problem. I could understand it with 720p/1080i. If you play any game in those resolutions on anything other than an HDTV, you will get the bars.Comment

In theory you ought to be able to play any 360 game on a standard def TV just fine but 2K botched the job here.Comment
