For the love of PETE how do you baserun??

I'm so sick of losing to the computer because of my ******** baserunning in this game. Here's an example, I get a hit in the gap, so I hit left directional on the pad to advance a base...but the problem is evidently that just tells the runner(s) to just run like hell because my guy runs to 2nd and then to my horror keeps on running for an easy out. In every other baseball game advance the runner(s) means go forward one base, not just keep running until I tell you to stop but evidently not in this game.

So back to the manual I go. Well I read the right bumper stops the baserunner. Aha! I think. So same situation comes up again, I hit left on the pad to tell my guy to go for 2nd. When he gets right near 2nd I hit the right bumper which I think should tell him to stop at 2nd. Well they throw the ball to 2nd, my runner has stopped, only problem is he stopped right when I hit the right bumper which is about 3 or 4 feet shy of 2nd base. Easy tag out.

So how in the heck are you guys baserunning because it's to the point now that even when I hit one in the gap I just stay on 1st because I'm afraid to run which basically means i'm losing, losing and losing because of this nonsense.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Beats me. The baserunning controls to me seem to be counter-intuitive and I run myself out of more than my share of innings.

I haven't used the directional pad in baserunning, so I am taking a guess here. But if you hit left on the directional pad, that might have meant you wanted to send the runner to 3rd?

I use the left and righ triggers to baserun. I'm not sure what system you use though, so I can't say if the controls are the same for teh PS2 with the shoulder buttons.

But lets say you hit a double, but the runner is only going for a single, just press the L trigger (or whatever button it would correspond with it on the PS2) and he advances to next base, no shorter or farther.

If you have multiple runners on base, and you want to advance the runner on second to third and he's not moving, press why, make sure the box that runner is in is flashing, and hit the L trigger (same thing here). R trigger brings the runner back to his previous base.

According to the manual (Xbox 360) using the directional pad advances and retreats all runners.

The manual for this game leaves a lot to be desired.

There are some of the PDF file enhanced manuals for PS2 and XBOX. They go in to more depth. I wonder how close the XBOX controls are to the XBox 360?

I think i got it down. Not sure though. OK if you hit the left tigger once he will go to 2nd if you hit it twice he will go to 3rd. So if you just tap it 2 or 3 times(like i was doing) he will keep running. If you notice in the baserunners window at the top of it,it has 2b/3b when you press the left tigger. That tells you where he will run to. Ok say i hit a ball in the gap. And i come to 1st and decide i want to go to 2nd. Just Press the left tigger ONE TIME. Say you think you can go for 3rd Tap it again. If you decide at anytime to go back hit the right tigger. If you have more then one base runners you have to switch to what ever runner you want to run and hit the left tigger. If you want ALL THE RUNNERS TO RUN use the D-PAD..... CONFUSED YET?

Oh sorry, didn't know you the original poster was talking about the 360 version. I would imagine that they aren't much different though.

hey guys i finally figured the running game out and once you get used to it, its not bad, but it fried me until i got it down.

lets say you hit a shot to the wall...you want to take second....you dont wait until the guys gets to first.....you press and hold the corresponding button.....in this case it would be X ( 360 ) and while the button is pressed simply left click the trigger....and he will go to second and stop there........

lets say you have a guy on second and you hit a rope to the wall and want hime to score and your hiter to go to second........as soon as the ball comes off the the bat and you see its going to be a double and you want the guy to score and the hitter to go to second...the first thing you do is hit the Y( 360 ) and hold it down and click the left trigger twice.. by doing that you telling him to take third and go home......and then hit X ( 360 ) and click left trigger once and tell him to go to second.....you will also notice in the little pip ( picture in picture ) that there will be a little number in each box......that number is telling you what base that specific runner is going to and stopping at...souns complicated...but its not once you get it down...hope it helps a little guys

ps...keep in mind when i say ...x...y....i just mean the button that corresponds with the hitter you want to control....different for each sytem

On the Xbox, you just have to press the corresponding runners button. Don't have to hold it. I would imagine it was HAVE to be the same on the 360. I can't imagine why it would be made differently in that aspect.

ODogg, you HAVE to set up situational games with runners on base, batter Contact way up, and the Throw Strikes sliders way up as well. Hit, hit, hit and run those bases. Practice. It's the only way. Took me an hour of practice before I got it down.

Reading the advanced PDF manual, left and right on the D-Pad advances ALL RUNNERS.

                        So keep that in mind.

Xbox, but I'd be almost positive the controls are the same when it comes to baserunning.

They don't have an advanced manual for the 360 version or I'd check it out. When you get a chance, play a situation with multiple runners on and see if the controls are the same for the 360 with the D-Pad.
