    Re: 2K7 preview and trailer

As one of the 6 ppl who actually enjoyed this game last year. I like what I see. Cant wait.

On another note, I noticed that the theme of this thread has been nothing but about the dag-gone swing animations. Its hilarious and sad at the same time how you guys argue over it. Me, I could care less. As long as they look human as someone else point out, I'm good.

BTW, I like reading Blzers post. The guy knows his stuff.

the graphics looks really good, but give me good gameplay and a functional franchise mode w/ a minor league system and i'm satisfied. if not, it'll be another season of mvp for me.

I hope they give us some new fielding camera angles to go with the "replaced" animations.

          Somehow I'm not surprised.

Graphik pimping any 2K game and me being very critical of any baseball game are things to set your watch on.

I'm watching this game with great interest, but I'm going to wait a few weeks after release to make sure that there are no bugs like last year that made the game unplayable for some. It's easier for me to wait a bit and see if there are any problems, then it is to wait for a patch to come out after.

              Re: 2K7 preview and trailer

The swing animation has changed. It's really obvious when you compare the images/vids from 2k6 and 2k7.

The Jeter gif may be a bit jerky in the animation department (it still needs some work. No one is saying it doesn't. Not even Blzer). But, it is light years better than the previous swing animations.

Like Blzer has said repeatedly, the swing in 2k7 has much more balance, leg power, and weight behind it. 2k6 and prior used only the upper body for swinging. It was everything you shouldn't do when playing baseball. It's what made long shots look unrealistic because a man shouldn't hit a ball 400 feet without using his legs.

But outside of the swing, the animations are much better overall. They may not be perfect, but they are much better thank 2k6. The still images look great! I have never seen MLB 2k look so good in terms of player faces and body shape. They are the best of any of the baseball games out there. I definitely see NBA 2k potential on body shapes and faces. Does that mean it's perfect? No. Not even NBA 2k is perfect, but to argue the players look worse than Live or Sony's product would be ridiculous.

We still need gameplay vids, though I doubt we'll even get that until we actually play the game. We already know that the guys at IGN NEVER play the sports titles realistically. It'll be on a low level, they'll swing at every pitch, throw fastballs down the middle, etc. It'll be nice to see the game in real motion, but we won't be satisfied.

Truth is, we won't know how the game plays until we buy/rent it. Right now, I'll rent it online. If the game is THAT good then I'll buy it to support Ben Brinkman's vision and the game moving forward. But, it needs to be THAT good.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

I may be mistaken but isn't the game still using a VC/Kush hybrid engine as opposed to an entirely new one?

Where? I was telling a guy that the swings are not the same as last year, and I hope you see that by now as well.

Not to mention... I don't even have a 360 or PS3. I'm drooling over things that I wouldn't even get if I were to want this game.

Besides, we may know more than what we just see on there.

This makes sense, considering they are using the same graphics code as they do with the NBA 2K games... but they are behind them. So, that means that the end result is a few months more work on the game (as you can see, everything except maybe the players features anti-aliasing... I don't recall any other 2K Sports game having anti-aliasing before this one).

                        WOW!

I watched the low rez version of the clip and even that looks freakishly real life.

hopefully theres no stupid gamekiller that cant be corrected with sliders this year.

One thing that this game really has going for them is the simple fact that they have passed Alpha stage way early this year, and Brinkman has been sitting on his debug 360/PS3 and playing this game 5 hours a day for corrections on this game. It's crazy!

Now I'm not saying that they didnt edit the trailer to hide game flaws and issues but the graphics will pretty much look like that.

Also 2K has stopped using cut scenes and vids in the games with NBA2K7. Everything is real time. There is no CGI or cut scenes to use for these vids.

Now what do you mean by cutscenes? Because if you look carefully, it seems that the Youkilis (or Varitek) shot is a cutscene from last year that normally has a graphic in front of it... I think the lineup graphic. And then the Schilling shot is also the same deal I believe, where it shows a graphic of his stats. And I think Jeter's first appearance on the video is a walkup cutscene that normally displays and overlay of his state.

So, those are cutscenes, in a sense. Other times, you can tell that they just went into some form of replay mode, where they could stay at one stationary point or lock on somebody, or rotate something. Look at them being on free-roam with Willis and Jeter, and then locking on Garciaparra and the ball in the A's double-play. The rest of them may still be partly that, or they just may be shots that they can enter in debug mode.

Still the same swing animations, already turns me off. I'm hoping we can be surprised though.

How can you possibly say that. I mean the swing animations from last two years to now are beyond night and day difference. Not even remotely close. 100 times better this year.
