Yeah, but Dan Brady's getting to build his game (The Bigs) from the ground up & its looking fairly good. Seriously though, I think there are certain major things that can be done to make 2K7 feel completely new... but we'll have to see. In order to start over from scratch they would probably need to fire Kush.
MLB 2K7 is really a REFINED 2k6. Is that OK with you?

Considering the growing pains the NBA2k product went through with the horrendous 04 and 05 titles, only to bash skulls in with the 06 version...I have faith that this will be OK, if not really good.

MVP 05 was pretty much the same exact game as MVP 04, except they fixed the stupid stuff. And 05 was pretty much the greatest game of all time.Comment

This is exactly what I was praying 2k7 would be. They needed to stop trying to run forward for a year and just run in place and fix all the crap that was wrong."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Im totally fine with it. This is what they should have been doing all along. Instead of trying to rebuild the whole damm game every year.Chicago Cubs

Re: MLB 2K7 is really a REFINED 2k6. Is that OK with you?
The whole gimmick route that certain other sports franchises (Madden) seem to be taking is getting lame and old. The gimmicks and "superstar" type hoopla should be left to games like The Bigs, NBA Street, NFL Street, and the like. These sim type games should be getting layer upon layer of polish and refinement, that's what we're expecting from next gen!
So far, this game looks like they've taken this route. It will take time to get it where we/ they want it, but it looks to be on a good road to improvement.

I definitely don't have a problem with Visual Concepts refining 2K6, as a matter of fact it is what I wanted for past couple of years. Having to play 2k6 and seeing the same horrid swing animation that has been in the game since 2K4 really boiled my blood. The player models and the quirky animations didn't help either, but I am glad to see the 2K franchise headed in the right direction and I will purchase 2K7 without hesitation because it is what I had been hoping that Kush would do to get this franchise fun again.Comment

Re: MLB 2K7 is really a REFINED 2k6. Is that OK with you?
I don't think they really had a choice. We would have had to skip 2K7 and wait for 2K8, if they really wanted to start from scratch. With the 3rd party license, I don't think that was a possibility with MLB.
Overall, I think they have made the best of a not so good situation and it sounds like it won't be until next year before the defense gets an overhaul like the pitching and swinging mechanics did. Also, I don't know how much different it would have been if they started from scratch. We'd probably be see more of the ugly animations and in exchange, we'd probably see less of the new ones.
The gameplay will be the deciding factor. What they have done visually, is in my opinion enough for the visuals, but if the same can't be said for the actual gameplay, then it is all for nothing. Most of us need the substance. If the game plays a decent game of baseball with minimum errors, then I think they did a good job. I don't think it has to be perfect this year, but it has to be much improved. If the game plays just slightly better than last years, then I'd say they didn't spend their time and efforts on the right stuff.
Like you said, this is what 2K6 should have been, so in essence, they are a year behind where they should be. With a lot of hard work, maybe by next year, they can make up the 2 years.Comment

Re: MLB 2K7 is really a REFINED 2k6. Is that OK with you?
Refining a game is what a new version should be about.
Why would I want ten new modes that I'll never use just so they can spend one month on gameplay and call it a brand new game?
What makes New Features part of a new game? The only company I know of that thinks New Features makes a new game is EA. Refining, improving, added details, tweaking, tuning - That's a new game."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
