what's the point of ERA in franchise if...
runners that score on a walk count as un-earned runs and runners that score from an error count as earned runs. They need to patch this but they probably don't even know about it.Tags: None -

when you say score on a walk to you mean any runner who scores who made it on base via a walk or just scored on a bases loaded walk?Comment

Re: what's the point of ERA in franchise if...
Some guy comes up with no outs, and he doubles. The next batter comes up, and hits a tricky one-hopper at the SS where he boots it and it goes out into center field, and the runner from second base scores. Are you saying that should be an unearned run? Because if so, I believe that run is earned. If there are two outs, then this is not the case.
Also, if there are two outs, and this situation happens, not only is that not an earned run, but any run scored after that (even off of a home run) is unearned.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Also, whenever they bring up the stats of the pitcher's last game performance, the ERA is always messed up compared to the stats given. I noticed this all the time in my franchise...like the latest example.. 5 ER, 6 hits, 2 BB = .50 ERAComment

Re: what's the point of ERA in franchise if...
i think it works when you walk a run(full bases walk), but suppose you walked a player, than the next batter comes and pop a hr, you will only be charge of 1 run, and it should be 2, casue it was the same pitcher that lost the first batter.---------------

Re: what's the point of ERA in franchise if...
Here's what happened, a guy got walked and then he scored LATER IN THE INNING, and it counted as an un-earned run.
Then in a different game, the batter hit a fly ball to right field and jermaine dye dropped the ball and got charged with an error, that baserunner scored LATER IN THE INNING, and it counted as an earned run.

Re: what's the point of ERA in franchise if...
It actually is true. I noticed right away playing exhibition games. However, while it needs to be fixed, I don't know that it will really mess with ERA that much as there seem to be to few errors anyway."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. Wha's the point of ERA when just about every SP in the game throws 200 + innings because pitchers RARELY get injured.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Re: what's the point of ERA in franchise if...
I know this will be somewhat off-topic, but it's another stat question. If you hit-and-run and do it successfully so that your runner advances at least one base, is he credited with a steal? I know this was a problem in 2K5 and in 2K6.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: what's the point of ERA in franchise if...
I have had this happen a few times and it has worked correctly. I have also had the situation where runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 out and a 3-2 count are on the move and the batter walks. In past years I have seen the runners get credit for a SB, but not this year (although Jon Miller still makes reference that a SB occurred)."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. Re: what's the point of ERA in franchise if...
Was the error with two outs? Because if not... well, say we have this situation:
Some guy comes up with no outs, and he doubles. The next batter comes up, and hits a tricky one-hopper at the SS where he boots it and it goes out into center field, and the runner from second base scores. Are you saying that should be an unearned run? Because if so, I believe that run is earned. If there are two outs, then this is not the case.
If in your scenario, the next 3 batters come up and strikeout than that run would remain un-earned as he would have not scored had the error not been made. However if the next guy comes up and singles, then he would have scored either way and the run is earned.
Besides deciding close plays between hits and errors, this is where the official scorer makes his money.
Basically, they reconstruct the inning and determine if the runner would have scored without the error....It is then up to the official scorer to determine whether the runner who advanced from second to third on an error would have scored on a single to center if he was still at second.
Scroll down to 10.18 for all of the detail.
The "fun" part as a pitcher is when there are two outs and your SS boots a routine GB which would have ended the inning and then the other teams scores 6 or 7 runs, which are all unearned. Can't be a worse feeling for a SS when that happens though.
My annoyance of the rule comes from the whole "can't assume a double play".When a guy hits a routine double play and the SS throws the ball away, when the throw would have obviously beat the runner, he is not charged with an error. I guess the reasoning is because he often is throwing with a baserunner bearing down on him, but this would be another case where the "official scorer" can make an official decision.Last edited by Trevytrev11; 03-05-2007, 04:31 PM.Comment
