    Help with pitching

Okay, I have it set and the AI throws balls all over the place.

As for me (the user) all I do is throw strikes. I'm playing on All Star,
BREAKPOINT, CLASSIC CONTROL, INSIDE EDGE OFF.

I don't see anything in the sliders that make the user pitcher less accurate?
    What am I missing?

    Re: Help with pitching

I play with the strike zone off and by simply going with the catcher calls most of the time I throw a decent amount of balls. I just had a game where I threw 101 pitches (61 for strikes) in 6 innings with Adam Loewen.

When I played the demo, something I noticed was the catcher actually setting up OUTSIDE the strikezone and I thought to myself, "this is going to be a ball if I throw it there". Do you get that feeling?

The catcher does call for pitches outside of the strike zone. Every pitch he calls either blinks red for strikes or blue for balls. (yes I just wrote blue balls)

If you actually throw what he calls you'll have a great pitch count and walk some people. It also helps with getting more K's
        Good job! Good effort!

I always throw what the catcher calls, unless I really want to go after a guy and he's calling for something I know I can do better. I find it does provide a more realistic game of baseball, yet still a fun game.

I don't. It' actually pretty realistic. Pitchers try that all the time trying to get the hitter to chase a bad pitch.

Jim, the only slider is the Pitch Interface Speed slider in Player Options.

Pitch control is exactly like last year’s game, so they obviously didn’t have time or whatever to tweak it. With the Pitch Interface Speed slider at 100 for Payoff, it still moves slow enough to control with plenty of accuracy. And lowering individual pitch control ratings has a very minimal effect (as in “none”) on a pitcher’s control.

It’s the complete opposite with Zone. Zone with that slider at 100 is almost impossible to control. Second, you can edit pitch control ratings and see an immediate affect on a pitcher’s control.

Why these two were programmed so differently is anybody’s guess. I personally think they intentionally made Payoff easy for the online crowd, although that doesn’t explain why changing pitch control ratings makes little difference when using Payoff.

try turning down the composure ratings to zero and see what you get.

I also use breakpoint and I struggle with location. With breakpoint should I aim the baseball where the catcher's mit is or do I have to understand how each pitch breaks and position the ball around the mit so the pitch breaks into the target.

Not sure If I am explaining myself correctly, but im having a tough time with location.

See, that's why Jim is The Man and you're just... Big.

I would guess you aim outside the glove and allow for breaks. But I don't use IE and all that pitcher-calling-the-game stuff.

When I aim for the glove the pitches break out of the zone for balls

don't aim at the glove on breakpoint or they will be balls.

I'll give zone a try. I know, in real life, you SHOULD purposely throw balls and try to get the batter to chase them, but in real life you should also have control problems when trying to grove a pitch. For me, it just doesn't feel this way as I hit the spot on almost every pitch the catcher calls for in the zone.

The key to pitching is to make a strike look like a ball and a ball look like a strike!

                              Jim,
I have been using the breakpoint pitching with the sliders slightly adjusted from pro. What I do is I let the catcher completely call the game. I go with whatever he calls, no matter what. I have had games where I threw almost 200 pitches and actually had a game where I threw more balls than strikes. The catcher does set up out of the zone a lot, but when there are 2 or 3 bals he almost always sets up for a strike. The thing is, he wants you to try and hit the corners and if you miss my just a little its a ball. I actually had a game where I walked 7 guys, and I have walked in 3 runs so far in my season.
