yes the catcher will set up and you try and hit his mitt, if you look at the icons (xbox360) if the icon is flashing blue that means he's set up for you to throw a ball and if its red thats a strike but cpu will swing at lots of balls.

[QUOTE]Does anyone with the original Xbox have the ability to use the catcher?

    I can't find it

i know in 2k6 you could manually make the catcher setup by moving the R stick but not sure about this yr.

I have probelms for when he calls for a curve inside. say if it's a left handed pitcher and a left hande batter it always resuklts in a hit by pitch or vice versa from the right with a right handed pitched and a right handed batter. HOWEVER if you really nail it you get a real nice inside pitch that geta great strike call and a animation that plays it all out. i've doen it enough times to maybe see 3 to 4 different animatiojn recations!

It's tough. That's where you gotta learn the break of your pitcher's curve and start it outside of the mitt enough to have it break right in there.

I have been letting my catcher (McCann) call my pitching game since I started playing it. I have the strikezone brackets turned off, and find it makes a much more interesting game pitching without knowing (short of using payoff pitching to mark corners) where the actual strikezone is.

I typically use McCanns positions as more of a suggestion than aiming to hit his mitt perfectly every pitch. Even with Smoltz he seems to call for far too many balls. If he sets up inside and down out of the Strike zone, I will try to place my pitch in that location within the strike zone or just outside of it. With the sliders I have I would be walking almost all of the batters I face. Ultimately I take position and pitch selection as suggestions, and place pretty close to where McCann calls for the ball.

i think where the problem comes in with hitting batters when the catcher sets up on the inside is that you have to remember the camera is offset to the side some and not directly behind the pitcher, so you have to allow for that when pitching, kind of like watching a game on tv and what appears to be a ball on the inside is really a strike.

Michael Barrett and LoDuca call sweet games. I had an 8 inning 12k game with Prior only giving up one run, and I threw an 11k complete game shutout with Glavine on All Star.

It's a challenge hitting spots when your stamina is under 20% but I love the pitching in this game.

i went and edited one of my pitchers stamina to 0 and turned off injuries (if injuries are on your pitcher will get hurt at 0), now that was tough pitching, when you first start the game your pitcher will have 100% until after the 1st pitch.

If you haven't changed your pitching view from the default then it should be automatic that's IF it's in the xbox version of the game. 360 it's just there by default and I'm pretty sure that you HAVE to be behind the pitcher to use it.

I've got Pudge behind the plate, and even he makes some really curious (and some downright stupid) calls, but I just shake those off, which is realistic.

Overall it's better than having the option turned off. Once you're used to seeing the catcher position himself in all different places, it's a major step back graphically to play with him just sitting in the same place the whole game.

Plus, it's a nice way to keep yourself from throwing strikes all game long. I would never walk anyone if it was up to me. Allowing for the catcher to call the vast majority of the game causes me to throw probably two or three times as many balls as I would otherwise, and I generally walk three or four batters a game - nice.
