I think the negativitiy is based on a few factors. Since 2K has the exclusive rights to the MLB, it's the only baseball title available for xbox360. Madden saw the same type of negativity in the forums right after they locked up the NFL rights. Last year's 2K6 on 360 scored a few 0 out of 10 reviews so you can see why some were hesitant to try this years title, let alone play it long enough to start liking it.

I have been playing the game for a week now and I am really impressed. The graphics are definitely 'next gen', I love the pitching mechanic and having the catcher call the game for you. (ASB '06 was going to have this) My main gripes with are game are:

-check swings are pretty much non-existent (swing stick needs a lot of tuning)

-there’s so many game highlight cutscenes, I am pounding on the’A’ button to skip to the point where I throw a pitch accidentally. I lost my no-hitter in the 7th inning one time because of this!!

-too many robbed homeruns. Plus showing the highlight of it every time that player bats. Having 5 robbed homerun movies of Andruw Jones before his at-bat is what cost me the no-hitter mentioned above.

-fielders don’t lock-in when you are positioned to make the catch, thus they usually just barely hang on to make the catch on routine plays.

Overall I am having a lot of fun so I will keep playing it. Again, hats off to 2K for pulling it together.

There are probably a lot of factors that went into that decision, if they were in fact aware of the issues. You never know how tweaking one thing might break something else, thus adding even more time to the dev schedule. Delays always represent a financial risk; they likely came to a point where they felt any issues they may/may not have known about didn't warrant delaying the product. I'm sure every dev wants to ship a near-perfect game out, but there isn't a game I'm aware of that doesn't contain an issue that the developer just had to live with. Also have to factor in the possibility of any issues possibly being addressed by possible patches. As a casual baseball fan, I don't think I would've ever noticed the the franchise issues w/o someone pointing them out to me.

The game does require a lot of slider tweaking; don't know that I've seen such varied slider sets for a sports game. Outside of that, the game definitely looks and feels next gen, and is very fun and addictive to play

The Show has the reputation from last year making up for the disaster this year. I know that I returned the Show. No regrets.

As for 2k7, this game is in no way, shape or form "unplayable" at all. There are some issues with the long term modes like Franchise and such that won't allow some sim-heads such as myself full enjoyment of the title.... but in the time I've spent with the game I have had a blast! The most unfortunate thing is most of the same issues from 2 years ago are still present in this year's title.

I have high hopes for next year, as opposed to this year prior to release, however...

It is my opinion and I am posting it on a 2k board...so I wouldn't be trolling. The obvious franchise issues in the ps2 ruin the game. I heard that the psp version is a lot of fun.

But I do not have any regrets from taking back the Show. 2k is the baseball game of the year!

Wonderful, great that you're enjoying a game. Especially 2k7, as it's greatly improved from last year. While you can't handle the franchise issues in the PS2 version of The Show (lack of trades) others can't handle the ridiculous lineup shifts and trades in 2k7's franchise. To each their own. All that matters is you are happy. But you continually go out of your way to comment on the "other" game when all anyone wanted to discuss was 2k7 here.

Just for the record, constantly posting about MLB: The Show on the 2k board does NOT mean it isn't considered trolling. You don't have free reign in this forum to constantly post negative comments regarding another game.

In a thread that is asking why this game is getting so many bad reviews, it helps to compare it to the other games on the market. That is my basis for commenting on the Show. I am sorry if it offends you, but I do not see what is wrong with comparing one game next to another.

You can try to come off as being objective about both games by providing a reason why you think that the cons offset the pros when it comes to The Show, and how the pros offset the cons when it comes to 2K7.

I'm still waiting for stupid GamenFlix to get MLB2K7, but from what I've read on numerous sites is, that besides the franchise and lineup bugs, there isn't enough hit variety, too many HR's and too many robbed HR's.

Maybe that's why some people are ticked off?

The Show's Pros
- Great Gameplay
- Great API
- Good last gen graphics
- "signature moves" are spot on
- Almost complete franchise
- Road to the Show is greatly implemented with a good improvement from last year.
- Online options have improved greatly and add a new realm of play

The Show's Cons
- Lack of CPU trades/transactions in a franchise makes the mode suffer.
- Serious framerate issues.
- Some of the stadiums are a bit off (all games suffer from this)
- Too many generic looking and acting players
- Repetitive audio

There are not many Cons, but to me that far outweigh the positives that i listed.

2k's Pros
- Much improved gameplay from last year
- True next gen graphics (can't hold that against the Show)
- Newly designed franchise mode presentation.
- Great overall presentation of the game
- GM Mode is also greatly improved.
- Good percentage of the stadiums are pretty accurate (not 100%, but enough to notice)
- Online options and gameplay are pretty good.

2k's Cons
- Lineups get screwed up
- Players sometime spend more time in the minors after the DL than they need to.
- Too easy to hit homers
- Too easy to give up homers
- Not enough foul tips
- Too many decent players do not have their "signature" animations in the game.
- Online play can get laggy sometimes

With these pros and cons (I am sure that I can think of more pros and cons for both games), I pick 2k7 for me. It has its quirks, but it is a more immersive game than the Show.
- Audio is too repetitive
- Tons of new animation

I know I haven't played 2K7 yet (only the Show), but I don't see how lack of trades and spotty framerate issues is a lot worse than horrible CPU lineups and lack of hit variety.
The list of cons you have for the Show are all true but none of them are game breakers for me, only minor annoyances. Meanwhile, things like Jim Thome playing SS and seeing 5 stolen HR's, while hitting 12 HR's in a game are. To me at least.

Until they get a patch out (which I am still hoping for...but I am not holding my breath), the lineup bug will have to be tolerated. I don't like it either.

As for the robbing homeruns, hitting many homers, or any other gameplay element; tweaking the sliders have gotten rid of all of those nuisances for me. That is if you believe in playing with the sliders. Some people like to play the game out of the box, the way the designers intended it to be.

If it weren't for sliders, I would have taken this game a long time ago.

One thing about 2K7 that I don't like is that I can't be a tough out at the batter's box. I want to foul off pitches and make the pitcher work, work up his pitch count, eventually getting to their bullpen early. The most foul balls I hit in one at bat is 2, and that's a rarity. I just love being able to have quality at-bats playing The Show.
