I watched the PS3 version of this game being played at Best Buy today...

I know you guys always wanted for me to play this game for myself (or to get a current-gen console), so I went to Best Buy before picking my friend of at the airport, and fortunately it was being played on a display PS3 and a 42" HDTV.

Graphically, it looked great. I didn't get to play, and the person playing must have had some sort of physical deficiency, because he was playing as the Orioles and against the Devil Rays and was losing 32 - 0 in the first inning with no outs. Every time a ball was hit, he wouldn't move his controller to get the ball until well after it would pass him. Didn't know how to pitch, and after so many passed balls, he still didn't even move his head from the screen and wonder what was maybe going on.

Anyway, first thing I must get off of my chest: The framerate and slowdown would be game killers for me if I owned this game. Hopefully the 360 version isn't like this, and hopefully 2K8 won't be like this. I have no personal impressions with this game in playing it, but it looked good. But that damn framerate! How can you guys live with that?

The game runs great during gameplay, so I can hang with the lag time in cut screens.

only real lag or stuttering i see on the 360 is when the ball is being tossed around the infield, which has no effect on the gameplay.

Well, like... I saw a foul ball that was skied in the air where in one shot you could see nothing but the ball and blue sky. In that shot, it ran smoothly. For a split second you could see it running smoothly coming down and seeing the stadium in the background, and eventually it fell down enough so that the background was all fans, and back to a choppy framerate.

I'm telling you, I don't know if it is just me, but I almost can't settle for anything less than 60 FPS in games now-a-days. Perhaps that's asking for too much... perhaps that's asking for impossibility. But hey, that's just how I see it after watching MLB 2K7 run on that HDTV on the PS3.

I only see lag during the 7th inning stretch and when the ball is being tossed around the infield after an out, it is a little annoying but Ive learned to ignore it I guess.

Sell the PS3 and get an Xbox 360. I owned a PS3 for less than 24 hours. It crapped out on me. PS3 is a lackluster console that Sony quickly produced to try to compete with MS's strategy. Sony pulled an EA and left us with a crap product that they thought would sell on name recognition alone. Ditch it and upgrade as soon as you can. Trust me, I'll buy a PS3. But, not until the bugs are fixed and it's a proven console. Right now it sucks.

Either that or buy Metalstorm and realize that's the best game you're gonna get for a while.

well i do agree in some points with you..specially when i had to sell one of my systems. i must tell that in the end it was a no brainer...the ps3 went out easily...
i jsut cant imagine my gaming time without xbox live anymore.

This is the exact type of comment that is only going to draw negativity back. To say the PS3 is a lackluster console because you had bad luck with it is a joke, especially when comparing it to the 360 which had far more problems when it first came out, I mean far more problems. To call it a crap product is a joke also, it has been widely reported that it is actually the best blu-ray player on the market, it runs much quieter, much cooler (in regards to temp), has a built in HDMI port that the 360 doesnt have, and at this point we cant even compare games since the PS3 hasnt been out very long and when the 360 came out it didnt have much in the way of games either. Its alright to not like a system but when you throw around things that arent true, its going to cloud your stance as it pertains to the people reading it.

cool, a console war, sony fan boys are funny. i like sony an all, and i dont have a ps 3 cuz they cost too much right now . but my one complaint is your comment on the blue ray being the best on the market. i remember ps2 could play dvd's, but sony recommend you dont play dvd's with your ps2 b/c it wears your lens quickly. !! that was a joke. i seriously hope ps3 isnt like that! advertise for a nice blue ray dvd player, but in fine print it reads "sony recommends not playing blue ray dvd on this machine". that would be great!

Truth be told, I would probably be considered a Sony fanboy, and I'm still trying to find reason to get a PS3 over a 360 when I actually get one of the two consoles. But when I see how much slowdown this game had and the amount of frames that are just completely missing in regular gameplay in the PS3 version (and if this isn't the case in the 360 version), then I would almost have no choice but to eventually get a 360.

I'm waiting on 2K8, anyway. Hopefully things are ironed out. The game looked beautiful! Carl Crawford batted like himself, and Camden Yards was amazing.

Unfortunately, I wanted to play for myself and get a glimpse of night games haha, but this guy that was playing seriously had problems. A few other people would pass by and wonder what the hell he was doing. Once he accidentally pressed the D-pad I guess and it went into the defensive formations. He repeatedly was pressing Square I guess to try and get out of it, but it never would (I saw on the bottom that you had to press Triangle, but didn't bother to tell him). He didn't get frustrated or anything... just kept pressing Square. Eventually he got out of it.

Anyway, I just really may be a stickler for those types of problems (or the display PS3 wasn't running on as many SPUs as it should have or whatever), but the framerate and slowdown was that bad.

The 360 version is like that. The framerate problem is maybe the worst issue with the game - besides a number of poor and extremely lazy programming issues. Really difficult to follow the ball when it's being pitched, or when it's hit into field. I know Kush got the framerate down right with NHL 2K7 (about the only thing they got right with that game) so hopefully they figure out what the problem is with their baseball game and fix it for next year.

...and the Oscar for best dramatic performance goes to...this guy.

I have both systems and the game on both and I can safely say (b/c I have PLAYED both quite a bit), that you are very dramatic. If your story is true and you were watching some challenged kid play, not even playing yourself, something was wrong. There is virtually zero difference between the two...and slowdown is really limited to cutscenes.

Slowdown, yes (which it seems to go very slowly), but if this game were capable of running at 60 frames per second, then you would realize that the framerate is a big thing when it comes to visuals.
