Want to Check Swing W/ the Swingstick? This is Your Day!

While many explain this broken mechanic, you can check swing at will with the Swingstick. It actually makes somewhat sense.

1.) The way the book describes it is technically right
2.) If you are attempting a power swing, you will not pull back your swing

To check swing, you must pull back the "R" stick before the stick is centered (which is a contact swing). It's a real quick reaction. Basically, you must not let go of the "R" stick with your thumb. Because of how fast the stick can get centered, you basically pull it back before it gets to that position. Once it gets centered, it triggers a full contact swing.

You have to NOT let go of the swing stick in order to check swing.

After you pull the swing stick all the way back, begin to push it up just about a 1/4 of the way, THEN pull it back. Don't let the swing stick get back to center when you're pushing it up. That's it!

Wow, that took long enough to figure out.

...which is exactly what the in-game instructions state. I don't get how your instuctions here are any different, or what exactly you 'figured out'.

What exactly is the point of this thread?

If it wasn't for the slew of people who said the mechanic was broken, or wasn't reliable, then this thread wouldn't need to exist. If you can check swing at will with the SS, then who needs to reply here? I can tell from the zillion posts that it isn't as easy as the instructions insist. I know the instruction bookley isn't as clear as we hope. From the many threads saying it was impossible to check swing with the SS, I have found that it is possible to check swing at will, and I'm sure there are those people who wish to know.

This thread is perfectly fine being here. Some people like me haven't read the book on how to check swing and it would be of use to know how to check swing. He made this thread to help people out. If you two already know how to check swing don't read the god dang thread. It is as simple as that.

Thanks sleepytrecel this thread helped me out. I think I'm going to go practice this and get it down so I know how to do it.

Sounds like some people need to read their manuals before playing the game.

Apparently... but why read the manual when we have 500 threads on this topic anyhow?

That would be a good thing but the whole check swing mechanic is more complicated than it needs to be... if a real batter wants to check their swing it's a fairly intuitive process... you just stop swinging.

Now hang on and think about it... A batter doesn't just 'stop swinging'; you could say he also 'pulls the bat back', trying to keep it from breaking the plane of the plate. Could be it's too hard to implement in a video game - pulling back with the controller stick. But it does seem like a fairly intuitive way to at least try and program check swings.

In fairness, I do recall at least one discussion on the difficulty some people were having checking swings. But not reading the manual is a pretty sad excuse.

I've seen at least 10 to 15 topics on how it's impossible to check swing with the Swingstick. I have yet to see one that describes to these people how it can be done at will (and not by random luck). I provided that thread for those others who felt it was a broken mechanic. I think too many people attempt power swings too often and then wonder why they can't check swing. However, it makes sense to me overall. If you're swinging for the fences on each swing, then you're not looking to pull back a swing. When doing a contact swing, it makes sense now, that you have to pull back the stick before it gets centered. There's been a lot of people online asking me how I do it, so this thread is for all of those.

Any idea on how to check swing using the classic interface? I dont think there is anything in the manual about it.

I am a little confused. At one point you mention that "you must not let of the "R" stick with your thumb....", but then you say "let go of the stick just a sec..."

Please clarify if you could... and then you say "push it back down"... Do you mean push the stick down as pushing it in? I would think pulling it back down makes more sense?

                          Thanks

I put it in the same category as cover the plate with a bat. Most batters can just do it without having to think about it. I don't like all this right stick attempt to mimic the real motion stuff at all.

No offense, but this info was discussed here shortly after the game came out. Can't check a power swing - most people know and understand that. Nice though that you can provide this info for those who have been playing the game for a month now without reading their game manual and who were wondering which button to push in order steal second and stuff like that
