Reading pitches is starting to really frustrate me!

Regardless of if I'm using the swing stick or classic hitting, I feel like I can't get a feel for the CPU pitching at all in this game. I've probably played about 30 games since this came out, I'm still tweaking stuff and getting ready to start my franchise.

I guess I was spoiled by the hitter's eye in MVP that tipped you off to the type of pitch it was going to be. I'm late on damn never every fastball and way out in front of anything off speed. I'd be willing to bet that 75% of the hits I get in this game are on hanging sliders. That or just guessing fastball and praying they throw one.

It doesn't help that every slider set out there has every pitcher in the game throw 90% of their pitches on the black. I wish there was a pitch history in this game, I'd love to chart an entire game to see this. I mean I'm facing the Devil Rays' middle relief who's down around 40% for stamina and he's still painting the black on every pitch like he's Maddux in his prime.

I agree, I K a ton. I put the contact slider up to 30 or 35 and I've been able to put more balls in play. This hasn't really affected my hit total (about 6-11 per game) so I'm ok with it. I'll move it back down if/when I need to. I have also started to put my battter's eye on the low, outside corner as those are often the pitches I swing and miss at. Turns out many of these pitches are actually balls so thsi has helped me be more patient. Just some ideas....

That's what did me in - no visual sense of which pitches are balls and strikes. Just wondering though: you play on a standard TV or widescreen? Because the pitcher is too close on a standard TV unless you switch the 360 to widescreen format. it stretches the players, but it improves the hitting game somewhat.

That's actually an issue with the game. They removed the AI Location slider this year, and obviously didn't re-program all that properly.

The problem is that with the contact slider at 30 or below you don't foul off any borderline pitches. The only time you foul off balls is when it's a ball over the plate that you mis-time.

So then you factor in the amazing control of the CPU pitchers and their ability to put 85-90% of their pitches on the black and you're screwed. In real life those are pitches that batters aren't going to hit hard, but foul off to stay alive. With the contact slider set so low in this game that's impossible to do. I posted in one slider threads that I actually have borderline pitches go through my bat with the contact slider set below 30.

I have a 50" Samsung DLP, so widescreen.

            Ah, I didn't know that.

Yeah, in 2K5 you could tweak the AI Location and AI Corner slider together, and end up with pitches 12 inches outside the strikezone if you wanted. It made reading balls and strikes many times easy, and as I said you could basically tweak it to suit your skill level. All that's completely missing from the game this year.

The only real way to make sense of what pitches R coming is to lower Pitch Speed.

There you go - I always play with pitch speed at 100.

How do even see the ball coming out of the pitcher's hand @ 100, you old bat

I turned AI Corner down to 0 and they still hit corners w. Ease. It's definately broken.

I guess I'll have to try lowering the pitch speed then. I believe I'm playing with it on 80 right now.
