I don't know if I just suck at the game or what. I find reading pitches just about impossible in this game, especially the slider. I have slowed the pitches down and that has not helped. I have played countless games against aces and 4th and 5th starters and can not seem to find any consitency with hitting.

Re: Reading pitches is starting to really frustrate me!
I played again at Best Buy today. I tested Pitch Speeds, and I know for a fact that 60 is not close to true speed. Even 85 is slower than true speed.
Anyway, yeah... the T.V. I played on definitely had a quarter-second lag for everything. I think that sort of attributed to one of my framerate issues, thinking that some missing framerates had to do with unresponsive controlling. It definitely is the T.V., though. But that still doesn't explain some other people using an SDTV and saying that there is still little lag, which I hope is fixed for next year. Striking out 14 times a game with the Angels against Kevin Millwood doesn't sound right.
By the way, I found out that I really miss zone and cursor hitting. I don't know what to do to ask for it back, but it would be amazing if they could bring it back again. I tried what people said in the slider thread and just tried to direct the stick at where it was pitched, but swinging down resulted in ground balls, and swinging up resulted in fly balls. Needless to say, pretty much all of my outs that were not strike outs were ground outs, I had 5 hits, and I had a home run (maybe one of the few times that I connected in fair territory while swinging up). I really miss zone and cursor hitting.
But reading pitches was fine. When somebody else was playing before me, though they had the strike zone on, when pitches were coming by, I said in my head whether it was a ball or strike and whether I would have swung or not. I was near 100% right... some I couldn't tell because he made contact, though.
Anyway, I'm sure that pitch speed at 90, 95, or 100 is actual pitch speed. 60 DEFINITELY isn't, though.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Reading pitches is starting to really frustrate me!
Out of curiosity, with the pitch speed at 50 are you still able to not only hit homeruns but also just hit the ball hard? I messed with this with a couple batters while I had the time and wasnt able to really get solid contact so I figured I would ask those that have played at the pitch speed longer.Comment

And Blzer, there's nothing in this game remotely associated with zone-style hitting. If you're a left-handed batter and go after an outside pitch by moving the stick left, all you'll do is hit the ball to left field. Move the stick down to go after a low pitch, and you'll hit a ground ball ever time. Yeah, the fact there's no zone hitting in this game has pretty much killed this whole series for me.Last edited by baa7; 04-13-2007, 06:20 AM.Comment

Re: Reading pitches is starting to really frustrate me!
i only got one thing to say on this subject. i think its comical when you guys set your contact slider to 0, and pitch speed and pitcher difficulty at 100, only to try to make the game extremely difficult, so you can portray your self great at this game. Only to fail at it, then blame it on the programming. Tune the game to a simulation, whatever it takes to get there, not to unrealistic challenges that you cannot handle. there is nothing wrong with the programming, pitching can be read very realistically and responsive without sacrificing difficulty.
ps. i also think its funny, a guy who doesnt even have the game can give us "DEFINATE" insight.Last edited by findinghomer; 04-13-2007, 07:17 AM.Comment

i am baffled to why you still continue to troll the 2k7 forums. we understand you dont like it. But setting unrealistic sliders then sucking at the game because of it then blaming the programming is not necessary. Go play mario baseball.Comment

All I know is, I get burned on 95mph fastballs at 65. That's good enough for me.Comment

PItch speed at 100 is still slower than real life, agreed.

Last year, I could settle for the swing stick, because there was still some variation (not too many down the lines, though). But when playing 2K7, the swing stick is abysmal for too many reasons, main one being the TV lag.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Reading pitches is starting to really frustrate me!
(BTW, K-Rod's slider in this game is unbelievable!)
I'm not convincing people to raise the pitch speed to make it more realistic to your playing ability or comfort level. I'm just telling whoever said that 60 is closer than 100 in terms of real pitch speed might want to just visually watch the two rather than trusting the stop-watch timing, no matter how many times it's done.
And findinghomer, I don't have to own the game to give something as simple as what true pitch speeds are. I've given the game at least 5 hours now or so, and when paying close attention to these kinds of things just about every pitch... it's not so hard. I don't see how people that own the game are finding this to be very difficult.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Reading pitches is starting to really frustrate me!
well thats the point im trying to make. certain guys in this thread are complaining about how hard certain aspects of this game is, and how the programming is screwed up, but then they have the sliders set unrealistically high to make it that way. all im trying to say, is tune the game to make it sim. no matter what it takes, even if it means tuning down to give you an "edge" from the default settings. if thats what it takes to make it realistic, do it.
but some people are too stubborn to do this , cuz they think its cheap. then they complain when its too hard and call it programming error. makes no sense. IVe got the game tuned perfectly to my skill and is challenging and yields realistic results game in and game out. My only Major gripe on this game is the GM mode (or franchise) its bland and generic. cant wait till next year when the GM mode is more in-depth and the logic is better.Comment

But, I suppose that's the only way that they can do it for it to not look like a kid is throwing on the mound, and that would take too many trajectories to program and work with.
I have negative input on the lag the T.V. generates with the swing. It has nothing to do with pitch speed, not at all. Yes, pitch speed suddenly becomes a factor on higher speeds because of this lag, but I'm not going to blame the speed of the pitch, because without the lag I wouldn't have this problem.
So, whether the pitch speed is on 0 or 100, I still have about a quarter-second delay in everything that I do. Granted, when I eventually own this game or whatever games I own, I'm going to make sure that I don't get that kind of T.V. However, baa said that there were complaints aside from mine about the same thing, including on SDTVs. I just hope that the in-game swing response improves next year, that's all.
But you're right... I'm one of those people that only like to settle for realism, be it in the scorebook or on the playing field. Normally, if I can't reach that realism, then I tend to have gripes. That's just me, and there's nothing that you or I can do to change that style of play that I prefer. I just can't settle for slower pitch speeds is all.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Reading pitches is starting to really frustrate me!
ahh i see, i dont experience that lag on my mitsibishi 52 inch. i have it set at 1080 HD . i actually enjo being able to see, and select pitches rather than swing away and cross my fingers its over the plate. feels like im playing real baseball.Comment

Re: Reading pitches is starting to really frustrate me!
Well, like I said... take away the lag, and I can judge without a problem, even at speed 100. I guess you can consider it a talent, or it may have to do with my baseball eye as well. Whatever it is, sometimes I need to feel like I'm actually playing real baseball, meaning I need those lightning fast pitch speeds (altruistic to the real game of baseball). Believe me, a 92 MPH fastball looks much different from a 100 MPH fastball, even on the highest of speeds (and changeups are scary to time as well!).Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Reading pitches is starting to really frustrate me!
that's kinda why i use a combination of 1. pitch speed = 55 (to read pitches better) and 2. zoom in pitch when batting & ai change speed =100 (to make fastballs/offspeed pitches more effective for the ai)..just my thoughts.Comment
