I really disagree with this but 2k does do some things right. The gimmicks in 2k like Inside Edge are a lot less realistic than the gimmicks in the Show like the new pitching system. It's also impossible to get realistic pitch counts in the game without having the computer throw 50 percent balls, since there are not enough foul balls. I really hope they tweak 2k to include more foul balls, a classic pitching option, and a fixed franchise before I have to go buy a PS3.

This game ranks as one of the greatest I've ever played period.
I hit more than my fair shsare of foul balls, probably 2-4 per inning. Furthermore, this is a videogame and noone wants to have multiple at-bats where they hit 5-6 fouls at a time. To me the Insiders Edge is cool and very helpful. What is wrong with the pitching system? I think its very effective.Comment

I played the hell out of MLB 06 on my PS2 and I think 2K7 is better. I'm getting much more realistic stats, I'm not having trouble hitting to the opposite field like I did in The Show 06, and I get really immersed into the game. Just my opinion obviously but 2K7 is my favorite baseball game of all time.Comment

Re: Why I'm loving this game right now...
I am going to start playing this game much more because right now Madden is kind of ruined for me but NCAA is awesome. I just ordered a memory card and transfer kit off ebay so once that comes I'm going to download the rosters and start a Twins franchise. I haven't played it much since the patch was released but hopefully I can get some good sliders and get games like you guys are talking about where it's not easy to win like in most other games.NHL-Minnesota Wild

Re: Why I'm loving this game right now...
... because I'm 4 1/2 games out mid-way through the season with the Mets. I love the fact that I'm not 13 games up by june, or that I've figured out all the tricks to beating the CPU.
I'm playing my hardest, and doing everything to win and I'm still only six games above .500. Mid-way through the season on almost sports games I find that I have to dramatically change sliders/edit rosters because I've "figured it out". I'm really hoping I never get to that point in this game.
In the end, it's nice to sit down to every game knowing it has some meaning because I'm not running away with the division.
Also bjowers it's nice to hear your'e playing with the Cubs who are a very good team as well. Looks like you guys are having a lot of fun.

Re: Why I'm loving this game right now...
I agree...I'm getting a decent amount of foul balls. Pitch count is one thing I don't need to be ultra realistic. My games take over an hour to complete now as is.

Re: Why I'm loving this game right now...
Idk...I personally am enjoying The Show on PS2 more than 2k7 on Xbox 360. Maybe it's because I played a lot of 2k but there's some things that just really annoy me. I think pitchers have way too much control, and there's too many 6 or 7 pitch innings. Some people might not care about pitch count, but it bothers me when I have pitchers getting tired in the 7th inning when only throwing 55 pitches.
The pitcher control is a common complaint about this game but I think most people neuter the CPU offense too much. I jacked up the CPU offense so that I really have to hit the black or just off the plate in order to be successful. I walk a few batters a game once I started to fear the CPU offense because I would have to max out the power now and then while still hitting my spots. I have more fun pitching in 2K7 than I ever did with the Show (the 06 version, not 07 which I have yet to try). But like I said it practically requires a graduate degree in slider tweaking just to get it right and I don't begrudge anyone who doesn't want to dedicate so much time to something the developers should've gotten right from the get-go.Comment

Oh, this game is a slider tweakfest nightmare. With the Show, you can pretty much pop it in and play a great game. But once I got a good set of sliders and slight roster edits to my team, this game really hooked me in.

It definitely took me a lot of time to perfect my sliders. My issues early on were the ease of pitching and strike outs for both sides. Like the above poster mentioned, bumping up the CPU batting really made pitching much more of a challenge as I'm having to hit the corners or I'm getting banged around which is also leading to more walks, and subsequently, more realistic whips. Fixing strikeouts were just a matter of adjusting contact numbers for both teams. I find that my pitchers resemble their real life counterparts as well. With Glavine I'm just looking to get the CPU to make bad contact, as opposed to using Perez who has some nasty stuff, but bad control, resulting in about 8k per 9 IP.
I also use classic hitting (I couldn't get the feel for "rolling" the swingstick and all my hits were right up the middle) so obviously my power is at 0. I actually went in and lowered some individual player stats as well. For instance Carlos Delgado has a 90+ power rating against righties out of the box, and yeah, he's been a super consistent power guy for 10 years, but at this point in his career, I don't think he deserves such a high power rating. Dropping some power and contact numbers for a number of guys realllly made a difference.
Long story short, this game definitely needs a lot of work out of the box, but through some hard work and a lot of early testing, I've really found a sweet spot that's kept a 162-game season fresh and that's more than I can say for nearly every sports game I've ever played. However, I must be strong and not let the work of art that is Bioshock slow my season progress.Comment

Re: Why I'm loving this game right now...
Your experiences with the game sound just like mine. I play with the Yankees so I needed to really edit the bejeezus out of that lineup. I took everyone's power rating down by 25.
I really love this game but reading about the franchise freeze has me concerned. I'm getting into September now and the last thing I want to happen is to NOT be able to play in the playoffs b/c of some freeze. I've been saving a new file after every game now just to try and get around this freeze.Comment

Re: Why I'm loving this game right now...
The game's been out long enough for us to really make a true final judgment about it.
That said,
I think the post-patch definitely calls for a re-review from IGN and the other media outlets--- which is insane because patches were never this big.
I play the game every other day or so. It's a letdown for my lazy friends that don't use sliders. I'm playing a completely different game from them basically.
My two baseball-gaming friends are addicted to MLB The Show---they take their created players through a career. They love it--it's all they ever talk about,"I won the Cy Young today. I struck out 17 yesterday".
I hope 2K8 has that feature.Comment

Re: Why I'm loving this game right now...
Yup.
If they could possibly fix the Franchise Mode (ie lineup issues and trade issues), retune the gameplay (mostly fielding though, the batting I like), we have a VERY good game on our hands.XBox 360 GT: XFactor416Comment

Re: Why I'm loving this game right now...
So basically we're saying the game looks good, but it needs work in every other area.
If the game didn't look so pretty, we wouldn't be this forgiving.
The graphics look good, and the animations are okay too. As good as the player swinging the bat may look, it sucks when he's looking the opposite way from where the ball is hit.
Collision detection and other physics that are off really need some work. No more canned fielding animations---no more 5 seconds wasted if you bash yourself into the outfield wall! NO MORE I SAY!Comment

Started a new season with the Tigers and I'm 16-11 out of the gate, a half-game up on the Indians. My last ten:

I'm sorry, but that's just a thing of beauty.I am become death
