The problem here is the power swing

Get rid of the power swing all together, I mean when the hell does someone walk up to the plate and go "I think I'm gonna use a power swing in this at bat?"

I have to completely agree with the OP here...I have started playing this game again in the last few weeks after finding sliders that work for me and I finally got live and downloaded the patch...amazing game. I have had an absolute blast and am getting such variety. I don't know how folks can rip the gameplay. In the last 20 games I haven't even had an issue with the AI and each game has felt so different. Last night I almost got no-hit by Doug Davis (through 6 2/3), came back and took the lead, but ended up losing 5-3. If they just tweak this game for 2K8 it will be something really special.

MLB players swing for the fences/take big cuts at pitches all the time. The power swing is an attempt to replicate that.

Exactly. That's the real issue with the power swing in 2K. Great points.

Well, yeah if you are going to play LOBBY games you are going to get that but when you have a league with 30 guys who play correct in a well run league its the best thing since sliced bread.

That's my point take out the power swing and just go by the players power ratings vs lhp and rhp. I mean look at people like Jason Tyner 1 HR in his career he shouldn't have the ability to use a power swing.

A power swing is fine so long as it follows these two rules:

                1. Normal swings can still produce your average homerun numbers.

                2. There is a large risk with using the Power Swing.

So far all baseball games only follow one of the two and that's sad. It's always either "Use power swing or don't get homeruns" or "Use Power Swing exclusively because you can hit more homeruns and there's little to no risk because you can always make solid contact. Yay!"

                Wack.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Interesting. I hadn't visted this board earlier, and wondered if I was the only one who thought the Swing Stick in this game was terrible. I was used to button swinging anyway from playing The Show on PS2, so it's good to see other people who actually like this game agree.

So when you use the button to swing, is there a such thing as a power swing then, or are you only influencing uppercut and downcut, like it was with MVP 2005?
