Considering the past with this series and most baseball series, I doubt much of this will happen. How many games have had arbitration, waiver wire, Rule V etc... I think ASB was the only one. If they do implement any of those things, I'll be shocked....happy, but shocked.

We're in the same boat...Holding out optimism...So far though I'm really unhappy w/ 2K not putting out any solid info, videos, etc. about MLB 2K8. If you stand behind your product you should be proud about it, and therefore give us some information about what we can expect. I hope we do get some kind of arbitration system...something.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Re: Arbitration-Will it be in MLB 2K8
Brinkman said they had to re-write the franchise mode because of the addition of minor league teams....I would not be suprised at all if ALL of that stuff is in there. Waivers, Arbitration, etc..... AND better gameplay, Look what they did last year in a really short development cycle:
30 new stadiums
all new player models, cloth physics
fixed a TON of gameplay (not franchise) bugs
All new player faces.
Signature style.
One thing I really hope they added that they have in the xbox version is Player Intro music. I know it is possible, because when you created a player, it would happen by accident. So lets hope they added this.
So here is what I am expecting for the 2k8 version:
Minor League Teams
more sig style (a lot of the guys who missed out last year, and rookies)
a few new stadiums (minors and some classic stadium)
fixed the 2k Beats bug (and possibly added custom walkup music...the whole music system was broken last year)
stronger franchise mode
better gameplay.Comment

Tweak the gameplay more...Focus mostly on franchise mode giving it everything the game of baseball has, and custom walkup music would be awesome.
If I could upload an MP3 of every Phillies specific walk-up music that would be sick.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Re: Arbitration-Will it be in MLB 2K8
Isn't it disappointing? I mean to build an effective team you need all of these options rather than just a draft, free agency, and trading. All of that is fine when limited to Football, or Basketball but baseball has a so much diverse world of acquiring talent.
I just don't understand how this can be overlooked. If there afraid of it not appealing to the "casual" gamer than just give the option to SIM everything but don't just not include it at all.
sadly, the casual folks are the ones who make up 75 percent of the sales. in almost all sports games this means the casual folks are pandered to and the game tends to be dumbed down.
the ones that do try to cater to the more hardcore player - like High Heat did - haven't lasted long.
in this case, even with an on/off switch, i think you risk losing a gamer to a competitor because they feel overwhelmed by the options.
besides, adding arbitration to the existing franchise would be a TON of work for something a lot of people are just going to turn off because they don't understand it.
you have to build both the GM and player AI around it.
you have to build some kind of system that rates the player against his peers in the game and takes into consideration their existing contracts.
and you'd have to augment the draft system to include the compensatory draft picks for players offered arbitration that become free agents and sign with another team - plus a system to evaluate what kind of player they are and what kind of compensation your team is entitled too.
IMO its a lot of work for a game last year that used to think A-Rod was a great leaderoff hitter for the Yankees a trade AI that would send the top players in the league to all corners of the earth if you offered the right flavor of doritos in return. If you can read this, you don't need glasses.Comment

you're seeing this more and more in sports games. the "hardcore" vs. "casual" and what features each wants in a game.

I understand it may be a lot of work, but how could ASB do that on the PS2, and Next-Gen couldn't? Wouldn't the power of the 360 make it easier to program something like this?Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Re: Arbitration-Will it be in MLB 2K8
its just a matter of priorities. i mean this day and age they can do anything - especially with consoles having hard drives for storing vast amounts of information.
its just a question of whether its worth spending say 100 hours on a new arbitration system, that would then need to be completely tested and then fit into the existing franchise code, or is it better focusing that attention on other things like .... lineup and trade AI that wouldn't impact other aspects of the game.
couple that with the potential of stressing out casual gamers with this new feature they don't understand, and getting many "2k sports gave me the runs" emails.
here's a test on this. keep in mind many of us here are geeks when it comes to this kind of thing and would love anything they added to make the franchise complex. but go to say a casual baseball friend. you know - the kind who can only name the star player and throws like a girl.
sit him down and start explaining arbitration for him. and watch as his eyes slowly glaze over before he goes cross-eyed, falls out of his chair and bangs his head on the ground. then ask if he wants that in a video game.Last edited by BlyGilmore; 01-10-2008, 03:50 PM.If you can read this, you don't need glasses.Comment
