You know this is an interesting statement. OS must be good for a lot of free advertisement and I think it DOES affect sales of games as a lot of people visit and read the boards. I would think that the reviews of games here have as much, if not more, merit as the game mag sites. Why else would be get devs visiting?

That says something.

More should come out this week.
I agree, 2k is mostly to blame , but I still blame IGN, they certainly don't know what they are doing when it comes to recording and posting baseball videos. There has to be someone that works there that wants to see all the things we want to see. That person should be playing and recording the videos. Throwing meat right down the middle, skipping cut scenes and replays, ect. That's not how you showcase a game, that's two morons just having fun and not delving into the game. IGN should know better. If I were Ben Brinkman, I would think twice about letting IGN showcase my game next time. Maybe Gamespot is more deserving.

Well, I wouldn't let a drunk drive my car. Just saying that if it's really true what I'm reading here about IGN, or just guys ticked off that the game has shown a few flaws, then 2k should have known better. That's all. 2k gave the preview to them, not the other way around.

          I see it both ways.

2K should know better than to release the game to IGN, who obvioulsy doesn' t know it's *** from a whole in the ground when it comes to baseball....remember Hillary Goldstein is the one who dropped NBA 2K8 down because he said that it didn't pass his test of letting Shaq guard a PG outside of the 3 pt. line.

However, for IGN, if your job is to review different genre's of games, then you need to have the staff available to responsibly do it. If you are nothing more than a casual baseball fan, then you really have no business playing the game and reviewing it with any merit.

Seriously though, there has to be some baseball fans on staff at IGN that would be able to run through a couple innings of SIM ball to showcase what the game has to offer. If after a half a game the game turned out to be a homerun derby, abysmal-fielding, train wreck, then at least we could have seen it as such. Let some of the cutscenes run for a bit, let us see the replays in their entirety to see if the ball gets vacuumed into the glove or the fingers never touch the ball... It seems to me that sometimes the guys who review the sports games are guys that are better suited reviewing the platform games that are less about the actual game they are portraying. Baseball guys ought to review baseball games. Period.

So Hillary, when you are headed back to your cubicle to review your advance copy of Spongebob Squarepants: Underpants Slam! perhaps you could drop off the MLB2k game with someone who watches a baseball game or two.

I thought that it said the hands-on (and I assume also the videos) were done by Nate Ahearn, not Hil. I don't know Hil personally or anything, but on the podcast he made it seem like he loves baseball games, so maybe you're blaming the wrong guy? I dunno.

Yeah, Nate got to do the preview, but I am pretty sure Hillary will be given the review. What we do not know is who the strombolis were that were playing the game that was used for the videos they posted. My point was that I would hope that there are different guys for different genres of games, and the reviews would be handled accordingly. I really do not need a reviewer, who thought that Barbie Horse Adventures was the action game of the year, to be mistreating my baseball games. That is all.

I agree that there should definitely be certain people to review certain types of games (e.g. baseball games, first-person shooters, etc.) At the same time, I don't think you should judge how much someone likes/dislikes baseball based on other games they like. Just because someone likes Barbie Horse Adventures or whatever -- however unlikely they may be -- doesn't mean they know jack about baseball. The correlation there is minimal at best. On the other hand, if you can point to specific statements made by Hil or any other editor that proves they know absolutely nothing about baseball, then you have a point there. Regardless, this is all pretty pointless. I just hope the game is good, regardless of the review or who reviews it.

And it doesn't bode well for IGN to just do sloppy vids. They want to NOT receive them for review in the future? They want their reputation with the vendors to be a bunch of arse clowns? Just as bad a PR move as has been mentioned about 2k.

They've been doing this for many years, with many sports and it doesn't seem as if there have been any negative repercussions as a result of their showing games in a poor light.

You probably don't follow football or basketball, so you may not know how bad they make those games look every year, but they still get those early preview copies like clockwork year after year.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

There will be enough good to make a purchase, but come on, those videos did not do justice to what we have been reading or told.

Rocket outfielder arms - didn't see it
Homerun frenzy - (other than IGN idiots) didn't see it
Jumpy fielding mechanics - didn't see it, much improved i thought
Not enough signature stances - wow, saw a bunch in that video
freezing glitch - have to wait and see
line up glitch - have to wait and see
commentary - yeah, you got one there.
variety of hits - plenty of variety all of what i have seen
not enough fielder control - looks like you lose this one, plenty of fielder control now.
not enough fould balls - verdict undetgermined but there was a slicing/hooking foul ball in there and a big pappi foul straight down

Thats what I remeber reading all winter, now you get all your desires and you want more. Sometimes seems like kids at Christmas. What more you guys (those that are whining) want. Your major complaints about gameplay have seemingly been answered and you now want to say, "hey his socks aren't right, the grass is blueish green instead of lime green, the sky could be a bit darker by a shade, CC looks 5 pounds to heavy"

C'mon guys, this product has made hudge steps by the videos I have seen. It is not perfect yet, no, and maybe there are more problems that will become uncovered only through many games of play, but the product IS superior looking than last year. Not just "looking" but by way of mechanics and gameplay.
My Friend Chris owns me in 2k8. Seriously, I suck.

Indeed. While the general public knows no better, every year I'm shocked at how much credibility OSers give to their opinion. Everything they say regarding sports games needs to be taken with a cup of salt (yes, I meant cup). Really should be the case with most gaming outlets, given the state gaming journalism is in
